About

The TRENCHSTOP™ 5 S5 family is packed with features to help designers achieve their goals without the need to increase circuit complexity. Static behavior for mild positive temperature coefficient VCE(sat) means that paralleling is no problem and efficiency isn’t compromised during high temperature operation. At 175°C, typical VCE(sat) is a low 1.6 V; it provides dynamic behavior for single gate resistance selection for turn-on/turn-off due to the smooth switching behavior. Features also include clean gate signals, low dV/dt, low and symmetrical voltage overshoot.

The TRENCHSTOP™ 5 S5 product family offers a number of key features, starting with very low VCE(sat) of 1.35 V at 25°C which is 20 percent lower than TRENCHSTOP™ 5 H5. The IC(n) = 4x rated current is at 100°C Tc. Furthermore, the products feature a soft current drop characteristic with no tail current and a symmetrical, low voltage overshoot.

The gate voltage is under control (no oscillation) so there is no risk of unwanted device turn-on and no need for gate clamping. The maximum junction temperature is Tvj=175°C; these products are qualified to JEDEC standards. In addition, the Kelvin emitter TO-247 4pin package allows lower switching losses to be achieved.

Choosing these products offers you a number of advantages. For example, VCE(peak) clamping circuits are not required and the products are suitable for use with a single on/off gate resistor. In addition, gate clamping components are not required and gate drivers with Miller clamping are also not required.

TRENCHSTOP™ 5 S5 products are excellent for parallelization. More than 20 percent of switching losses can be reduced with higher efficiency and higher output power.
