About

The MOTIX™ MCU portfolio comprises motor control system-on-chip (SoC) and system-in-package (SiP) solutions that achieve an ultra-small footprint by integrating an Arm® Cortex®-M microcontroller, power supply, and the driver stage for brushed DC or brushless DC motor control either on a single die or in one package. Furthermore, most of the products have in addition a LIN or CAN(FD) communication interface integrated.

MOTIX™ MCU (SiP/SoC) products, which integrate in addition OptiMOS™ MOSFETs for the power stage, offer the most compact solution of the portfolio, including all components necessary for efficient and precise BLDC motor control.

Highlights

  • High level of integration
  • Tailored for different performance levels
  • Extensive diagnostics and protection
  • ISO 26262-compliant variants
  • Products with Arm® TrustZone®

MOTIX™ MCU design resources

MOTIX™ motor control SoCs/SiPs are supported by a comprehensive ecosystem, featuring extensive documentation, evaluation kits, reference designs, online trainings, software packages, and a diverse range of tools.

These brushed DC and brushless DC motor drivers are available for motor control in industrial, consumer, and automotive applications.

The idea behind iMOTION™ is to provide a ready-to-use hardware and software platform, integrating all the functions required for efficient motor control into a single integrated circuit (IC), thus reducing the complexity and time required for development.

The Motion Control Engine (MCE) is the core feature of Infineon’s iMOTION platform. It is a dedicated, hardware-based computation engine designed to perform real-time motor control computations, offloading the CPU and improving system performance and responsiveness.

Select from a comprehensive portfolio with different hardware integration levels
Aimed at offering customers the best-fitting solution, the iMOTION™ family offers several levels of hardware integration. In addition to the stand-alone MCE control IC, variants with an additional microcontroller are available. The highest integration level is achieved in the iMOTION™ integrated power module (IPM), combining the MCE together with the gate driver and a three-phase full-bridge in one small PQFN package.

The automotive qualified MOTIX™ motor control SoC/SiP portfolio, comprising brushed and brushless DC motor driver is tailored for automotive applications requiring robust and reliable real-time control of electric motors, focusing on minimal PCB space, low power consumption, or scalability:

Typical application examples include:

  • Thermal management: Pumps, fans, valves, flaps
  • Closure systems, for example window lift, sunroof and sliding door
  • Other comfort and convenience applications like seat control

Support of functional safety-relevant applications

MOTIX™ TLE988x & TLE99xx (BDC) as well as MOTIX™ TLE989x & TLE99xx (BLDC) families comprise ISO 26262.compliant (ASIL B) product variants. Nonetheless, MOTIX™ MCU QM products can be and are already used in a variety of motor control applications that require functional safety up to ASIL-B.

Infineon offers the following design-in support:

•       FIT data information (ISO 26262)

•       Function/blocks vs. area breakdown

iMOTION™ is ideal for motor control in a variety of high-voltage motor applications, such as:

  • Heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Home appliances, e.g., washing and drying or hood fans

MOTIX™ motor control SoCs/SiPs are particularly relevant for applications such as:

  • Robotics
  • Cordless power tools
  • Light electric vehicles

Integrated solutions enable compact, efficient, and reliable motor control with faster time-to-market and lower overall system cost.

  • Fast time-to-market: Integrated systems reduce the number of external components and consequently the design complexity.
  • Improved performance: Integrated solutions can offer better dynamics, higher precision, and increased efficiency.
  • Reduced cost: By integrating multiple components, these solutions can lower the overall bill of materials (BOM) but also less complexity and shorter design cycles help reduce costs.
  • Compact designs: Reduced number of components enables PCB space savings that are in some applications decisive.
