About

  •  USB-IF compliant, highly integrated 8-port USB hub with two USB PD 3.0
  •  Integrated five chips into a single package for reduction of BOM components and PCB size
  •  Integrated crypto AES/SHA/CRC blocks for secured firmware upgrades via DMC
  •  Intel USB4/Thunderbolt 4 dock reference design available
  •  USB PD 3.0, BC v1.2, Apple, Samsung, and QC 4.0 charging standards

EZ-USB™ HX3PD supports two USB PD ports, consisting of USB-C baseband transceivers and physical layer logic. The USB PD PHY consists of a transmitter and a receiver that communicate Biphase Mark Coding (BMC) and 4b/5b encoded data over the CC channel based on the PD 3.0 standard. In addition, the USB PD block includes all termination resistors (RP and RD) as required by the USB Type-C spec to implement connection detection, detect plug orientation, and establish USB source/sink roles.

EZ-USB™ HX3PD Configuration Utility can be used to update the firmware and configurations of the hub controller, PD controller, and DMC. Firmware and configuration images are stored in an external SPI EEPROM, while the PD controller and DMC images are stored in the device’s flash. EZ-USB HX3PD™ Configuration Utility is a Windows application with a GUI, and supports the following features:

  • Configure EZ-USB™ HX3PD’s USB PD controller and DMC firmware features
  • Create a ‘composite firmware’ image by combining the individual firmware associated with the three controllers of EZ-USB™ HX3PD (USB PD Controller,   DMC, and hub controller)
  • Download the composite firmware image to an EZ-USB™ HX3PD-based hardware
  • Get the status of the firmware from an EZ-USB™ HX3PD-based hardware

The USB 2.0 hub controller block supports the LS, FS, and HS hub functionalities. It includes the repeater, frame timer, and seven transaction translators. The USB 2.0 hub controller block supports: USB 2.0 link power management (L0, L1, L2, and L3 states), suspend, resume, and remote wakeup signaling, and multi-TT (one TT for each DS port). The hub is also integrated with a USB device, which can function as a DMC and USB Billboard.

Infineon offers a wide portfolio of hub controllers supporting USB 2.0, USB 3.x 5-/10-Gbps, and USB Type-C ports with robust backward interoperability with legacy USB speeds. The USB 10 Gbps hub controllers provide advanced USB PD and battery charging capabilities, featuring up to seven downstream ports for full configurability and flexible design. The wide portfolio offers different combinations of features to address all possible needs for notebook PCs, docking stations, TV, STB, DVR, gaming, home gateways, Wi-Fi routers, and automotive and industrial applications.
