About

All discs are assembled in highly reliable, robust, and hermetic sealed ceramic housings to avoid mechanical damages as well as almost any negative environmental influences such as high humidity. Besides diode disc types for rectifier applications, we offer a range of discs as fast switching diodes as well as soft and fast recovery freewheeling diodes for IGCT and disc IGBT switches.

Infineon's disc devices are hermetically sealed, double side cooled, and suitable for both forced and natural cooling systems, and especially for usage under harsh conditions. Infineon also offers a broad range of stack assemblies with thyristor- and or diode discs. Freewheeling diodes are the perfect fit for modern IGBT applications such as HVDC voltage source converters and medium voltage drives. A big improvement is the turn-off capability, which has been upgraded to 5 kA/us.

Key industrial applications for diodes in disc housings (also known as hockey puck housing) are low- and medium-voltage drives (motor control) and high-voltage direct current transmission as freewheeling diodes for PressPack IGBTs. In addition, they are the perfect product for welding machines, battery chargers, and electrolysis including Green Hydrogen Electrolysis.
