About

System-on-chip (SoC) and system-in-package (SiP) are two highly integrated ways to combine the key electronics needed for motor control. Both approaches help reduce board space, cost, and design effort—each using a different integration concept.

A system-on-chip (SoC) integrates most or all essential system functions onto a single silicon die. A system-in-package (SiP) combines multiple separate dies (ICs) in one compact package.

MOTIX™ MCU motor control SoCs and SiPs integrate an Arm® Cortex®-M microcontroller, the power supply and driver stage for relay, half- or full-bridge DC as well as brushless DC motor control. Most of them provide a LIN or CAN (FD) communication interface and the fully integrated products (TLE9954QSW, TLE993x) as well the power stage (MOSFETs).

Benefits of system solutions

By consolidating these functions, MOTIX™ MCU solutions save space and energy, improve system reliability, and reduce the bill of materials, consequently costs. They are well suited for a wide range of motor control applications and ideal where a compact, highly integrated package is essential.

The automotive qualified (AEC-Q100, Grade 1 and Grade 0) MOTIX™ motor control SoC/SiP solutions are ideal for:

  • Comfort and convenience applications such as window lift, sunroof and wiper or seat control module. Have a look at the window lift reference design using a motor control SoC with integrated H-bridge driver IC.
  • Thermal management applications include water and oil pumps as well as cooling and HVAC fans. Explore our reference designs for a 150 W coolant pump, a 100 W /150 W water pump or the engine cooling fan using different types of MOTIX™ motor control SoC/SiP solutions for brushless DC motor control.

Based on Arm® Cortex®-M microcontroller with power supply, LIN or CAN (FD) communication interface MOTIX™ TLE98xx and TLE99xx motor control SoCs/SiPs

  • for brushed DC (BDC) motor control integrate a relay, half- or full-bridge driver.
  • for brushless DC (BLDC) motor control integrate a 3-phase bridge driver. Fully integrated product variants with power stage (MOSFETs) enable ultra compact designs.

Functional safety

MOTIX™ motor control SOCs/SiPs offer support for applications up to ASIL B, with ISO 26262-compliant products but also QM devices are used in a variety of motor control applications that require functional safety. More about functional safety.

Designed for maximum flexibility and high performance, Infineon’s MOTIX™ motor control SiP solutions IMD700A and IMD701A have an operating supply voltage between 5.5 V to 60 V. This makes it the ideal solution for BLDC motor power tools that require fast and efficient charging solutions. Additionally, cordless power tools with higher battery supply voltages such as cordless drills with 24 V BLDC motors can be used for both space- and cost-optimized designs. Light electric vehicles such as e-bikes, e-scooters, and low-speed electric cars that use Infineon’s BLDC motor controllers with 24 V, 36 V, or 48 V battery capabilities exhibit increased battery life, longer operating range, and reduced charging times.
