About

EZ-PD™ PMG1 (Power Delivery Microcontroller Gen 1) is the industry´s first family of high-voltage microcontrollers with USB Power Delivery (PD). These chips include an Arm® Cortex®-M0/M0+ CPU and a USB PD controller along with analog and digital peripherals. It is targeted at embedded systems that provide/consume power to/from a high-voltage USB PD port and leverage the MCU to provide additional configuration capability. EZ-PD™ PMG1 family has a market-proven USB PD stack, ensuring spec compliance and interoperability. It is the only high-voltage, programmable USB PD solution on the market today, complete with an integrated Arm® Cortex®-M0/M0+ up to 256 KB flash and 32 KB RAM, a USB full-speed device, and analog and digital peripherals.

  • Area and BOM saving thanks to the high degree of integration
  • EZ-PD™ PMG1 SDK on ModusToolbox™ software with plenty of code examples and varied support documentation to speed up the design cycle and reduce time to market
  • Market-proven solution compatible with USB-IF and PD standards leading to no implementation risk
  • Customizable solution able to fit all applications
  • No in-depth knowledge of USB-C or programming required
  • Suitable for commercial or industrial applications

EZ-PD™ PMG1 offers a unified firmware view with an SDK supported in ModusToolbox™ software, enabling seamless migration between all the devices in the portfolio. Provided as a collection of development tools, libraries, and embedded runtime assets, ModusToolbox™ software is architected to provide a flexible and comprehensive development experience.

A growing number of products in consumer, industrial, and communications segments are adopting USB-C ports to source power. Infineon offers dedicated solutions to integrate USB-C ports into customers' embedded applications. Typical use cases include smart speakers, cameras, headphones, game consoles, power tools, VR headsets and other portable electronics, and home appliances. As the leader in USB-C end-to-end solutions, Infineon provides a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for USB-C chargers and power adapters.

Over 10 billion USB ports will move to USB-C by 2025: mobiles, notebooks, and cars have already chosen this standard, and so will every common DC power source/sink up to 240 W in just a couple of years. The advantages of USB-C are several: plug orientation and cable direction agnostic, bidirectional power flow using USB PD and negotiable voltage, and power up to 240 W. Moreover, by adopting a universal connector, companies can avoid including proprietary chargers for their product, significantly reducing the production of e-waste and their costs at the same time.
