Overview

Infineon's 40V and 100V current sensing MOSFETs are a more efficient way to implement current sensing by removing the need for shunts and enabling higher current caring capability and better thermal performance. This makes it ideal for three phase motor control applications. The CSFET™ addresses two key market segments. A 40V version for 18V battery platforms. A 100V version targets higher voltage systems (36V+) such as robots and drones.

About

The CSFET™ family addresses two key market segments. A 40V version targets 18V battery platforms. A 100V version targets higher voltage systems (36V and above) such as humanoid robots and drones.

The 40V CSF04ISCH90LT features 0.9 mΩ RDS(ON) in a PQFN 5x6 package, supporting motor phase currents up to 160A. It is available now and targets 18V battery platform power tools. The 100V CSFET™ family (coming soon) will expand the product offering providing a scalable solution for robotics, drones, and higher voltage power tool platforms.

The 40V CSF04ISCH90LT features 0.9 mΩ RDS(ON) in a PQFN 5x6 package, supporting motor phase currents up to 160A. The 40V is ideal for power tool applications utilizing FOC, as this is where the optimal benefits of the 40V CSFET™ are realized - greater current carrying capability, better thermal performance = lower temperatures on a PCB and ultimately a lower BOM coast and low latency current sensing allowing higher switching frequencies and higher voltage utilization. The 40V CSFET™ can also be utilized in other motor control application requiring the following conditions:

  • 3-phase permanent magnet motor (PMSM)
  • Battery voltage<24V
  • Phase current <160A
  • Field-oriented control (FOC)
  • Need for 3-current sensors

The CSFET™ eliminates the need for high-power shunt resistors and instrumentation circuits, reducing BOM cost and PCB size. It provides a current sensing signal directly proportional to the MOSFET drain current, simplifying the current sensing signal chain.

Integrated overcurrent and overtemperature protection functions further reduce the external component count and shrink the system footprint. The lossless current sensing improves the system’s thermal efficiency, enabling higher power density and more compact designs.

The CSFET™ enables 10% more current carrying capability versus a standard MOSFET with resistive shunts. At equivalent currents, CSFET™ reduces the PCB and heatsink temperatures which enables improved system reliability and lighter motor drives. The current sensing achieves ±3% accuracy over a wide current range from 12.5A to 150A.
