About

Infineon’s extensive portfolio of AC-DC PWM controllers includes PWM-FF/QR flyback converter ICs, PFC-CCM ICs, synchronous rectification ICs, and PFC-half-bridge/LLC combo ICs.

The full range empowers system designers to reduce design complexity, production cost, and development cycles while also increasing overall efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Infineon’s 5th-generation fixed frequency flyback converter ICs bring enhanced system efficiency and standby mode <100 mW allowing light-mid load systems to reduce switching loss and improve overall efficiency. Significant BOM savings have also been achieved through design simplification and reduction in components. 100 kHz and 125 kHz switching frequencies are available with advanced performance and protection features integrated. Infineon's wide portfolio also includes quasi-resonant flyback converter ICs, offering enhanced system robustness with the integration of innovative performance and safety features. The novel quasi-resonant switching method minimizes switching frequency spread and empowers SMPS designers to reduce components and overall system costs. Other benefits include significant protection coverage with a broad operating range of -40°C to 129°C, auto-restart recovery, and a cascode configuration for rapid start-ups

Infineon offers two types of resonant mode controller ICs (hybrid half-bridge flyback converters and LLC controllers) benefiting from the high efficiency, low EMI, and high power density made possible by a resonant mode power supply. Though both topologies benefit from these advantages, they are distinct and represent best-fit solutions for a range of applications such as SMPS, USB PD chargers, TV, server, and industrial power supplies. By applying ZCS (zero-current) and ZVS (zero-voltage) switching schemes, switching losses are reduced significantly. Consequently, these resonant converters are also known as soft-switching controllers.

Increasing demands for higher power density, smaller size, more portability, and more flexible systems spur the SMPS industry to continuously design new generations of AC-DC power supplies. We support our customers to meet design and performance goals through a wide portfolio of power devices including synchronous rectification ICs.

Infineon’s range of synchronous rectification ICs was designed to meet the growing need for increased power density from reduced footprints, alongside greater design flexibility. Conforming to the latest regulatory standards governing external power supplies, the full portfolio benefits from micropower start-up and ultra-low quiescent current, minimal components within a straightforward design, and advanced integrated safety features. Infineon’s synchronous rectification (SR) controller family (IR1161L and IR11688S) for SMPS meets the new 2016 standards set forth by the U.S. DoE and EU CoC demanding higher efficiency from external power supplies.

Hybrid flyback controllers combine the simplicity of a flyback with the performance of resonant mode. Hybrid flyback controllers are able to drive both high-and low-side switches in an asymmetric half-bridge flyback topology. Thanks to this innovative approach, ultra-high power density designs with very low standby power consumption is achieved.
