SPIDER+

SPIDER+ devices are multichannel SPI drivers with enhanced diagnostics features

anchor

Overview

The family includes both high-side, low-side, and configurable devices which offer cost-efficient solutions to drive small loads including open loads at ON detection. The family has consistent SPI registers, identical output stages for all channels, and pin-to-pin compatibility to drive down design effort and system cost. Small TSDSO-14 and 24-pin packages enable PCB space savings.

Key Features

  • 4 and 8 channels
  • 16-bit SPI interface
  • Up to 330 mA with all channels ON
  • Overload protection
  • Open load detection at OFF
  • Overvoltage protection
  • Overtemperature protection
  • Short-circuit protection
  • AEC qualified
  • Limp home mode with IDLE & IN pins

About

Infineon’s new integrated SPIDER+ family comprises nine value scalable products. The simplified portfolio includes two LS (8 + 4-channel), two HS (8-channel), and five flexible devices (8-channel) with up to six configurable channels. Therefore, a broad range of applications is addressable. Above all, the new 8-channel HS device offers a very cost-efficient solution to drive small HS loads including open loads at ON detection.

SPIDER+ devices have improved and additional functions, such as Limp Home and Cranking, very low-current consumption, enhanced diagnosis features, excellent thermal performance (exposed pad packages), and an input mapping function for both the direct inputs. The family has consistent SPI registers, identical output stages for all channels, and comprehensive pin-to-pin compatibility to reduce the design effort and offer cost-down options or partitioning adjustments without a PCB re-design. Small 150 mil packages secure PCB space savings and provide cost savings.

The most common automotive application for SPIDER+ is in the body control module (BCM) arena, where a high number of relays, indicators, and actuators distributed throughout the vehicle are controlled and diagnosed. However, SPIDER+ serves almost any automotive electronic control unit (ECU), for example, power distribution box, HVAC flap control, smart mirror control, E-shift, steering wheel vibration (lane change alert), and many others.

The most common industrial application for SPIDER+ is driving relays, indicators, and actuators in white goods electronic control units. The SPI communication interface allows the user to reduce the pin count of the microcontroller. This results in system cost savings and more precise diagnosis and protection.

The SPIDER integrates 4 or 8 MOSFET switches in different partitionings (Highside, Lowside and Felxible) with an SPI transceiver. Furthermore it integrates an PWM engine with 2 inputs and diagnosis & protection features like open load detection, temperature sense & over-current protection.
