SECORA™ Connect X

Empowering smart wearables with an active ultra-low-power NFC card emulation

Overview

With our SECORA™ Connect X solution, OEMs can easily turn any active wearable device into a secured payment device. Smart watches, fitness trackers, and smart rings can easily integrate SECORA™ Connect X and use contactless payments. SECORA™ Connect X features a Secure Element with active ultra-low-power NFC card emulation (CE) that enables Mastercard®/Visa® contactless payments and many other NFC applications.

Key Features

  • Smallest active NFC chip on market
  • Up to 60% reduction in BoM
  • Single antenna design for NFC charging
  • Ultra low power consumption
  • Compact solution with small footprint
  • Latest 28nm Secure Element technology
  • Best NFC performance in metal case

About

As a subset of the NFC mobile device class, SECORA™ Connect X is optimized for the most common wearable use cases. Compared to standard NFC modems, SECORA™ Connect X is smaller in size (2.5 x 2.5 x 0.6 mm), has a lower standby current (~2 µA), shows a better communication quality (higher load modulation amplitude) and better contactless performance. In addition, the NFC antenna can be finetuned to match the unique design of any wearable regardless of form factor, size and material.

Ultra low-power consumption for longer battery life

SECORA Connect X is designed for efficiency. Its active ultra low-power NFC card emulation minimizes power usage for longer battery life. In this way, it optimizes contactless performance while maximizing energy efficiency.

  1. Card emulation mode: Standard NFC Secure Element supporting Java Card applets for EMVCo® payment use cases based on Mastercard®, Visa®, etc., second factor authentication based on CDCVM applet, digital car keys based on Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) standards, transport ticketing and access control using NRG and Calypso®, secured token use cases based on FIDO2.1 (L2 certified) standards, and brand protection or simple tag use  cases using secured NFC Type 4 tags.
  2. Host card emulation mode: NFC pass-through functionality (NFC to I2C bridge) compatible with Wear OS supporting use cases like HCE payments, loyalty  cards, transport cards, tickets, door/car access, and dynamic NFC Type 4 tags.
  3. Hybrid mode: Secured connection handover from NFC to Bluetooth® for use cases like mobile driver licenses (ISO18013-5) and Aliro physical access

SECORA™ Connect x is designed to withstand evolving threats and  supports post-quantum cryptography (PQC) in-field updates, allowing long-term protection. Based on the latest 28nm Secure Element technology with RRAM, it delivers optimized performance and memory efficiency, as well as long-lasting security.

RED compliance:  With the rising cybersecurity vulnerabilities, the EU has taken the initiative to impose a minimum basic level of security for connected wireless devices. RED aims to ensure that all devices that use radio waves (phones, Wi-Fi routers, bluetooth speakers) are safe, work properly and don‘t interefere with other devices. SECORA™ Connect X helps you meet all RED requirements and speeds up compliance in a smart ring application
