24 GHz radar sensors for automotive

XENSIV™ 24 GHz radar sensors for automotive enable mid- and short-range applications

anchor

Overview

Infineon delivers the industry’s most integrated 24 GHz radar transceiver family, offering broad savings of around 30% compared to discrete lineups. These radar sensors enable low system costs with low power requirements while demanding only entry-level microcontrollers. Due to their ease of use, they are ideal for building RF front-end modules in short-range radar applications like kick sensors for smart trunk openers or blind spot detection.

About

Infineon is a market leader with its portfolio of 24 GHz radar sensors. The silicon germanium (SiGe) Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) operate in the 24 GHz ISM band from 24.00 to 24.25 GHz for signal generation and reception, based on a 24 GHz fundamental voltage-controlled oscillator. The components are qualified according to the AEC-Q100 standards.

24 GHz radar sensors are ideally suited for cost-effective implementations of Rear or Front Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA/FCTA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Collision Mitigation (CM), or Doppler-based vital sensing applications due to their low power consumption, ease-of-use, and high level of integration.

The high integration of the sensors – transmit channel and receive channels on one chip – saves PCB space and simplifies PCB design significantly. It saves ~30% board space compared to discrete lineups. The standard VQFN package can be easily mounted in available SMT production lines.

Infineon's BGT24 transceivers are highly integrated and are part of the largest family of 24 GHz ISM-band radar transceivers in the market, providing a range of different transmitter and receiver channel configurations:

  • BGT24ATR11: 1 Tx, 1 Rx
  • BGT24ATR12: 1 Tx, 2 Rx
  • BGT24ATR22: 2 Tx , 2 Rx
