About

We at Infineon have been focusing on LED drivers and connected and smart Lighting for many years. With our products and solutions, we are supporting high light and power quality in LED drivers as well as high efficiency of significantly above 90%. In the first step, the focus of the market has been on energy savings by just replacing incumbent light sources with LEDs. But due to further increase in energy cost and pressure on carbon footprint reduction, the efficiency of the LED drivers and the usage of presence detectors based on reliable radar technology are becoming more mainstream.

Whatever your need, Infineon has you covered with our portfolio of LED driver ICs that support a platform approach for LED drivers in commercial indoor and outdoor lighting. A comprehensive portfolio of high-voltage MOSFETs and low-voltage MOSFETs, benchmark for linear- and switch-mode LED driver ICs, microcontrollers with dedicated peripherals for smart lighting system solutions, with high-efficiency power conversion, and dimming technologies as well as easy-to-use wireless communication and sensor solutions for presence detection

LED drivers are used to provide a constant current to LED light engines for commercial indoor lighting, street lighting, and horticultural lighting. For the power conversion in LED drivers, numerous topologies are deployed by different companies. For power levels below 100 W, single-stage power factor correction (PFC) combined with flyback in the primary stage, and DC-DC buck in the secondary stage have become common. For power levels above 100 W, PFC combined with half-bridge is mainly used, while LCC is the dominating topology.

For two-stage LED driving, we recommend primary constant voltage output, followed by a DC-DC buck, which enables benefits with regards to dimming, efficiency, cost, and scalability. The power range can be scaled by deploying either a single-stage flyback with constant voltage output for up to 100 W or a two-stage LLC with constant voltage output for above 100 W up to multiple hundred watts.

At Infineon, we offer a broad variety of primary side AC-DC and secondary side DC-DC boards dedicated to LED lighting. Depending on your requirements, you can select and test the suitable AC-DC stage and the best fitting DC-DC stage.

Infineon's LED lighting system solutions for IoT applications promote decarbonization and digitalization with our XENSIV™ 24 GHz radar presence detection sensors to track the presence and location of people in a room and turn off or dim the lights accordingly, and our XMC™ and PSOC™ C3 MCUs and AIROC™ Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® modules for connectivity, resulting in more control and removing the need to physically interact with a light switch.

Find everything you need to make your LED lighting system smarter and more connected within Infineon's broad system offering for IoT applications.

Since LED strips require a constant voltage input, each LED string or channel needs a linear LED driver IC for usually up to 100 mA LED current. Applications using linear LED driver ICs need an IC with low voltage overhead hence, as many LEDs as possible can be stacked in series. Doing so increases efficiency and reduces thermal overload.

When designing your LED strip, look no further than Infineon's portfolio of high-quality, cost-efficient components. Our family of BCR LED drivers contain the smallest and most affordable products for linear LED driver ICs. Explore our products, reference designs, and demo boards below for more details on how you can maximize LED strips and signage designs with Infineon.
