  What does a motor driver do?

Brushed and brushless motor drivers “drive” motors by delivering the appropriate voltage, current, and pulse width modulation (PWM) signals to regulate motor operation. Infineon’s smart motor drivers offer a diverse and broad product portfolio ranging from discrete gate drivers to fully integrated system solutions including advanced technologies like the motion control engine (MCE) or adaptive MOSFET control (AMC).

With manufacturers focusing on the comfort and safety of passengers as well as the ecological footprint of vehicles, the number of small electric motors needed in a car continues to increase, for example:

  • Hybrid and electric vehicles demand comprehensive cooling & HVAC systems
  • Self-driving vehicles offer greater passenger comfort

iMOTION™ integrated motor control solutions for high-voltage applications (< 600 V)

iMOTION™ products are offered in several integration levels including hardware as well as software. The hardware integration comprises stand-alone motor controllers, motor controllers with integrated gate drivers (SmartDriver) and fully integrated inverters-in-a-package (SmartIPM). Low-voltage motor control up to 60 V with MOTIX™

Designed for maximum flexibility and high performance, Infineon’s MOTIX™ 6EDL7141 and 6EDL7151 3-phase gate driver ICs are tailored for applications such as cordless power tools, gardening products, and automated guided vehicles. MOTIX™ IMD700A and IMD701A are fully programmable  motor control SiP (system-in-package) solutions integrating the XMC1404 microcontroller with the 6EDL7141 3-phase gate driver IC in one package.

For DC motor control applications Infineon offers the MOTIX™ single half- and full-bridge ICs IFX007 and IFX9201.
