Overview

The BRIGHTLANE™ 88Q120xM device is a single-pair Ethernet physical layer transceiver (PHY) that supports operation over unshielded twisted pair (UTP). The transceiver implements the Ethernet physical layer portion of 100BASE-T1 as defined by the IEEE 802.3bw standard.

The BRIGHTLANE™ 88Q120xM features integrated MACsec to safeguard against layer 2 in-vehicle networking threats, securing data exchange on a hop-by-hop basis and preventing attacks such as intrusion, man-in-the-middle, and replay attacks. Manufactured using a standard digital CMOS process, it includes all the active circuitry needed to transmit and receive data over a single balanced twisted pair. The device supports reduced pin count GMII (RGMII) and SGMII for direct connections to MAC/switch ports, along with integrated media dependent interface (MDI) termination resistors that streamline board layout and reduce costs.

The BRIGHTLANE™ 88Q120xM is equipped with a voltage regulator to generate all necessary voltages, allowing it to operate from a single 3.3 V supply while supporting 1.8 V, 2.5 V, and 3.3 V LVCMOS I/O standards. Utilizing advanced mixed-signal processing, the device delivers equalization, echo and crosstalk cancellation, data recovery, and error correction at a data rate of 100 Mbps. It ensures robust performance that exceeds electromagnetic interference (EMI) requirements in noisy environments, all while maintaining very low power dissipation.
