From industrial pumps to industrial automation systems, Infineon’s XMC™ MCUs and other semiconductor products enable our customers to design the most innovative, efficient, reliable, energy-friendly motor control, and drive systems. Infineon’s XMC™ microcontroller family is perfectly suited as a controller for various types of motors, such as Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), Brushless DC Motors (BLDC), AC Induction Motors (ACIM), servo motors, and brushed DC motors.

Some functionalities that makes XMC4800 suitable for motor control applications:

Rich connectivity: 2x CAN nodes, 4-channel serial COM unit (configurable to SPI, I²C, I²S, UART), USB FS.

2x 12-bit ADC with a sample time which ensures fast reaction times and tighter control loops.

EtherCAT slave interface (ECAT) capable of 100 MB transfer rates (XMC4300, XMC4800)

EtherCAT is the real-time Ethernet standard for combining great bandwidth with unrivaled isochronous time determinism in ranges of three-digit down to low two-digit nanoseconds. The XMC4300 and XMC4800 series are the industry's first-ever MCUs with EtherCAT integrated on a standard Arm® Cortex®-M4 controller with integrated flash memory and analog/mixed signal IP. This provides the most compact and cost-efficient EtherCAT design without a dedicated ASIC, external memory, and crystal.

ModusToolbox™ software is a modern, extensible development environment supporting a wide range of Infineon microcontroller devices. 

Provided as collection of development tools, libraries, and embedded runtime assets architected to provide a flexible and comprehensive development experience. The ModusToolbox™ software includes an extensive collection of GitHub-hosted repositories comprised of code examples, board support packages, middleware, and application support.
