About

To deal with today's global warming challenges, smart thermostats need to be more user friendly and energy efficient to intelligently control HVAC systems for energy saving, comfort and convenience. Infineon's extensive solutions portfolio provide high return on investment by meeting your product needs today and in the future.

Infineon Product Benefits

  • Industry’s most energy-efficient and high-performance MCUs with AI/ML capabilities
  • Industry’s lowest power Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® LE combo chips
  • Low-power, cost-efficient Radar devices with antenna in package for robust occupancy sensing
  • Industry’s most accurate CO2 sensors, compliant with California Title 24, RESET, WELL, ASHRAE and more
  • Cloud connectivity and seamless integration with other smart home platforms and devices

PSoC™ 6 microcontrollers’ (MCUs) power and performance are ideal for smart thermostats with the MCUs low-power 40 nm technology and dual-core CPU architecture. With CAPSENSE™ capacitive touch sensing, robust security capabilities, rich analog and digital peripherals enable PSoC™ 6 MCUs to integrate many discrete ICs / smaller MCU functionality into a single chip, saving board space and BOM costs.

Infineon’s PSoC™ 4 general purpose MCUs feature an analog block with SAR ADC, Op-Amps and low-power comparators; and a multi-sensing block with CAPSENSE™ technology, delivering capacitive and inductive sensing for proximity wakeup/backlight and HMI features such as touch button and radial sliders while consuming as low as 6uA in ultra-low power mode.

PSOC™ Edge high performance MCU delivers high energy efficiency with Cortex-M55 paired with Ethos-U55 NPU for AI/ML processing at the edge, state-of-the art security and graphics interfaces, making it ideal for next-generation smart thermostats.

Choosing the right wireless connectivity solution is critical for the success of your Smart Thermostat.  Infineon’s AIROC™ wireless combo portfolio offers many options to meet your product needs, including ultra-low power for battery life and thermal control, superior range & coverage, and unsurpassed interoperability.

Our solutions:

  • Connect at long range, even in congested environments
  • Contribute to eco-friendly designs with low-power consumption
  • Support a wide variety of host platforms and operating systems

Smart Thermostat companies are looking for ways to get their customers to upgrade their thermostats. Offering advanced features that enhance customers’ comfort, convenience and lower their energy bills are three great reasons. Advanced sensors, such as Radar, CO2, and microphone help improve home and residential owners’ thermostat experience and decrease energy bills.

XENSIV™ 60GHz Radar is a low-cost, low-power solution for occupancy sensing. PASCO2 is used for demand driven ventilation control. MEMS microphone supports features such as sound detection and ambient noise control.

Our solutions:

  • Are the industry’s best Radar, CO2 and microphone sensors, at high SNR, low power and low cost.
  • Provide AI/ML software algorithms for signal processing and sensor fusion to help improve the user experience.
