Power Moves: Conquer & Infineon unlock GaN’s potential for charger & adapters

Internet of Things

The rapid evolution of GaN technology has transformed the power electronics landscape, enabling the development of compact, highly efficient, and cost-effective charger and adapter solutions. As the global consumer electronics markets continue to expand, the demand for advanced GaN-based technologies is increasing, creating new opportunities for innovation and growth. However, this growth also presents challenges, such as the need for more expertise in understanding of GaN device and in utilizing this new device in the system level.

Conquer, a specialized solution design provider with extensive expertise in GaN-based charger and adapter solutions, has further solidified its partnership with Infineon by successfully win back two significant sockets in the highly competitive charger and adapter market. This partnership brings together Conquer's design expertise with Infineon's cutting-edge GaN components, creating a powerful synergy that drives innovation and growth. By leveraging Infineon's cutting-edge 650V CoolGaN™ transistor (IGLR65R140D2) and innovative hybrid flyback combo IC (XDPS2221), Conquer has effectively addressed key market demands, delivering high-performance power outputs ranging from 120W to 240W.

The key highlights of Conquer’s new design:

  • Compact Design: By leveraging high-frequency GaN technology, the solution achieves a power density of 0.974W/cm³, significantly higher than conventional silicon-based designs, enabling more portable and space-efficient designs that are ideal for consumer electronics applications.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: An average efficiency of 94.6%. With the GaN-based design, the number is considered remarkable, minimizes power loss and heat generation, resulting in superior performance, reliability, and a longer lifespan that is critical for meeting the evolving needs of consumers.
  • Cost Reduction: The optimized design and efficient resource utilization have led to approximately 10% overall system cost savings, making charger and adapters more competitive and attractive to customers in the consumer electronics and aftermarket charger segments.
  • Customization: The design can be customized with different end users’ need and accelerate G2M of end users’ end products

In addition to the high-performance achievements, the collaboration between Conquer and Infineon showcases the success of partnership with ecosystem partners. This cooperation model benefits a broad base of aftermarket customers by helping them accelerate their G2M activities while Infineon and our partners to gain more market shares. It is a Triple-Win!

Alexander Sami, Head of GaN Business Management at Infineon, emphasizes, “This business win with Conquer underscores our joint commitment to innovation and demonstrates the significant competitive advantages our collaborative approach brings to customers in the charger and adapter market.”

The strategic partnership between Infineon and Conquer sets a new benchmark for GaN technology applications, demonstrating the potential for GaN products to drive innovation and growth in the consumer electronics and aftermarket charger segments. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible with GaN technology, this partnership is delivering significant value to customers.
