인피니언 GaN 사업부 책임자인 요하네스 쇼이스볼(Johannes Schoiswohl)은 “컨슈머 디바이스가 점점 소형화되는 동시에 전력 소모는 증가함에 따라, 엔지니어들은 더 적은 자원으로 더 많은 성능을 구현해야 하는 압박을 받고 있다. 새로운 CoolGaN BDS 제품은 이러한 과제를 직접 해결한다. 각 디바이스는 두 개의 백투백 실리콘 MOSFET 기능을 하나의 부품에 통합해 부품 수를 절반으로 줄이고 PCB 레이아웃을 단순화한다. 기존 드라이버 레이아웃을 그대로 활용할 수 있어 재설계 비용을 줄이고, 개발 기간을 단축할 수 있다.”라고 말했다.
BDS 디바이스는 다른 GaN 제품과 마찬가지로 5V 게이트 구동과 호환된다. WLCSP 칩 스케일 패키지(2.1 x 2.1 mm² 및 1.7 x 1.2 mm²)로 제공되며, 스마트폰, 노트북, 웨어러블 기기의 제한된 공간에 최적화되어 있다. IGK048B041S는 4.2mΩ의 RDD(on)을, IGK120B041S는 9mΩ의 RDD(on)을 제공한다. 또한 스위칭 및 누설 성능에서도 우수한 특성을 보인다. 게이트 전하는 경쟁 제품 대비 약 40% 낮아 더 빠른 스위칭, 감소된 스위칭 손실, 고속 충전 애플리케이션에서 향상된 시스템 효율을 지원한다. 드레인-드레인 누설 전류는 경쟁 제품 대비 85% 이상 낮아 GaN 기술의 우수성을 보여준다. 이러한 특성은 발열을 줄이고 장기 신뢰성을 향상시키며, 강화되는 안전 요구사항 대응에 기여한다.
실리콘 MOSFET이 바디 다이오드로 인해 의도치 않은 전류 흐름이 발생할 수 있는 반면, CoolGaN BDS는 전압과 전류를 양방향으로 차단할 수 있다. 이러한 양방향 차단 기능은 스마트폰 및 휴대용 기기의 USB 과전압 보호와 같은 역전류 차단이 중요한 애플리케이션에서 핵심적인 역할을 한다. 또한 이 소자는 여러 전원 레일에서 전류 방향을 정밀하게 제어해야 하는 멀티 레일 전원 아키텍처에서 로드 스위칭 및 파워 멀티플렉싱에도 적합하다.
