  • Infineon Austria hosted a leading international conference on advanced semiconductor manufacturing
  • More than 350 experts from around the world of industry, research and academia exchanged insights on the future of semiconductor production
  • A three-day training program for young talent and industry professionals preceded the conference

Villach, September 23, 2026 – Over the past few days, Villach became a hub for the international semiconductor community as the 25th International Conference on Ion Implantation and Annealing Technology (IIT 2026) was hosted by Infineon Technologies Austria AG. From September 20 to 24, more than 350 leading experts from industry, research institutions, and academia gathered at the Congress Center Villach to discuss the latest developments in semiconductor manufacturing. Prior to the conference, 150 young professionals and specialists participated in the three-day IIT School training program held at Infineon’s Villach site.

IIT is the world’s leading conference dedicated to ion implantation and annealing technologies, two key processes in semiconductor manufacturing. These technologies enable the precise adjustment and optimization of material properties that are critical to the performance of modern semiconductor devices. They form the basis for reliable chip functionality in applications ranging from energy-efficient power semiconductors to mobility, energy systems and artificial intelligence.

Held every two years, the IIT brings together experts from around the globe to exchange knowledge on the latest research findings and technological innovations. This year’s program focused on current developments and future applications in semiconductor manufacturing, process technology, equipment development, simulation, and metrology.

Alina Absmeier, Head of Manufacturing at Infineon Technologies Austria AG: “Ion implantation is one of the key technologies in modern semiconductor manufacturing. It was therefore especially exciting and rewarding to welcome the international expert community to Villach to exchange knowledge, learn from one another, and jointly shape the technologies of tomorrow. Events like these demonstrate what becomes possible when scientific excellence, technological curiosity, and international collaboration come together. Here in Villach, we are the innovation factory, and I am convinced that the future of semiconductor technology will be even more exciting than we can imagine today.”

Beyond the technical program, the conference offers numerous opportunities for international networking. Once again, Carinthia is showcasing its strength as an attractive hub for innovation, science and technology with global appeal. For Infineon Austria, successfully hosting IIT 2026 further reinforces Villach’s reputation as a globally recognized center for semiconductor research and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Werner Schustereder, Ion Implantation Expert at Infineon and Chair of IIT 2026, emphasized: “IIT represents the essence of technological innovation: sharing knowledge, building partnerships and shaping the future together. The conference brings together experts from research, technology development and industrial application to transform insights into tangible innovations for semiconductor manufacturing. This bridge between science and industry is what has made IIT such a valuable platform for the sector over many years.”

During IIT 2026, Werner Schustereder was also appointed President of the International IIT Committee, taking on a leading role in shaping the strategic development of the global ion implantation and annealing community. His commitment to inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists was also evident throughout the conference, where he engaged more than 400 students from Carinthia and encouraged them to look beyond AI applications and explore the semiconductor technologies that make them possible.
