September 2023 – Das neue Kompetenzzentrum entwickelt erste Referenz-Systeme etwa für die Elektromobilität, Life-Science, erneuerbare Energien oder die Robotik, um innovative Anwendungen noch schneller zur Marktreife und damit zu den Endkunden zu bringen. Angesiedelt in der Südbahnstraße, dienen die Räumlichkeiten auch als Vernetzungsplattform mit Bildungspartnern und Studierenden. Heute wurde dieser neue Infineon Standort in Innsbruck im Beisein hochkarätiger Gäste offiziell eröffnet.
„Mit dem Infineon System-Kompetenzzentrum setzen wir einen weiteren starken Hightech-Impuls für den Standort Tirol und bauen auf Erfahrungen durch Kooperationen auf. Seit 2014 arbeiten wir dort eng und erfolgreich mit regionalen Wissenspartnern in Forschung und Lehre zusammen. Durch die nun noch stärkere Infineon-Präsenz können wir einen permanenten Innovations- und Netzwerkinkubator im Herzen Innsbrucks etablieren“, betont Sabine Herlitschka, Vorstandsvorsitzende Infineon Austria und ergänzt: „Die Mikroelektronik ist essenziell für das Gelingen der digitalen und grünen Transformation und damit für die großen Themen Dekarbonisierung und Digitalisierung. Die hier entwickelten Systemlösungen sind Grundlage für innovative, nachhaltige Produkte. Gleichzeitig können wir uns mit den Technik-Talenten der Zukunft noch besser vernetzen.“
Florian Tursky, Staatssekretär für Digitalisierung, nahm an der Eröffnung teil und ließ sich erste System-Demonstratoren „Made in Innsbruck“ zeigen: „Ohne Mikrochips gäbe es vom Smartphone über intelligente Haushaltsgeräte bis hin zu Solaranlagen kein modernes Leben, wie wir es heute kennen. Aber es geht um mehr: Nur mit einer starken Mikrochip-Industrie können wir Abhängigkeiten von anderen Staaten reduzieren und gleichzeitig Arbeitsplätze und Wohlstand schaffen. Mit dem neuen Kompetenzzentrum in Innsbruck eröffnet Infineon bereits seinen sechsten Standort in Österreich und stärkt damit die Schlüsseltechnologie Mikroelektronik aus Österreich weiter.“
Sechster Standort für Infineon in Österreich
Das System-Kompetenzzentrum in Innsbruck ist neben Villach (Headquarter), Klagenfurt, Graz, Wien und Linz der sechste Infineon Standort in Österreich. Auf rund 400 m 2-Fläche im P3-Tower in der Südbahnstraße in Innsbruck stehen dem aktuell 10-köpfigen Team moderne Büros und Labore mit Test- und Messausrüstungen zur Verfügung. Mit dem neuen Standort werden die Kompetenzen vor Ort noch stärker mit der Kraft der Marke Infineon verbunden und die Sichtbarkeit Innsbrucks in der Mikroelektronik auf regionaler und internationaler Ebene erhöht. Infineon bietet damit auch jungen Talenten eine Netzwerkplattform für technische Projekte und wissenschaftliche Arbeiten.
System-Kompetenz mit Hard- und Software Expertise
Das System-Kompetenzzentrum folgt dem Infineon Ansatz „Vom Produkt zum System“ und kombiniert neueste Hard- und Softwarelösungen zu ersten Referenzsystemen. Die in Innsbruck entwickelten Demonstratoren für leistungsstarke und kleinste Mikroelektronik-Systeme können in der E-Mobilität, im Life-Science Bereich, bei Wearables oder als Service-Roboter in der Industrie, der Logistik, der Medizintechnik zum Einsatz kommen. Sie bringen mehr Leistung, ermöglichen mehr Funktionen, wandeln Energie hocheffizient und minimieren so den CO2-Fußabdruck in digitalen Anwendungen.

Mit der System-Kompetenz und dem vorhandenen Know-how in Innsbruck erleichtern wir es den Kunden, komplexe Produkte schneller zur Marktreife zu bringen. Entwicklungszeiten verkürzen sich, während die Energieeffizienz, die Funktionalität und der Anwenderkomfort steigen. Wir stiften damit einen echten Nutzen für bahnbrechende und nachhaltige Innovationen.“
Innovationsdrehscheibe für Fachkräfte der Zukunft
Durch das System-Kompetenzzentrum finden junge Techniktalente aus dem Westen Österreichs eine „Andockstelle“, um ihre digitalen Kompetenzen und das System-Knowhow zu vertiefen. Sie lernen die Welt eines global führenden Hightech-Unternehmens hautnah kennen und können bei spannenden Technologieprojekten mitarbeiten. Infineon bietet Industriepraktika, die Infineon-Schools und unterstützt bei Master- und Doktorarbeiten. 58 Prozent der Mitarbeiter*innen bei Infineon Austria verfügen aktuell über einen akademischen Abschluss. Infineon kann sich noch unmittelbarer mit der Universität Innsbruck, den Tiroler Hochschulen und regionalen Bildungsinstitutionen verbinden. Vor Kurzem wurde eine weitere Kooperationsvereinbarung mit der Universität Innsbruck unterzeichnet.
„Mit Infineon Austria hat die Universität Innsbruck einen starken Partner aus der Industrie. Es gibt bereits mit mehreren Fachbereichen einen Austausch. Diesen wollen wir in Zukunft intensivieren und auch auf neue Gebiete ausweiten“, sagt Veronika Sexl, Rektorin der Universität Innsbruck. „Unseren Studierenden bietet diese Kooperation die Möglichkeit, über den Tellerrand hinaus zu blicken und Erfahrungen in der Industrie zu sammeln. Das nützt auch der Gesellschaft, denn Innovation findet immer dort statt, wo sich Menschen aus unterschiedlichen Fachbereichen und Kontexten austauschen. So werden alle von dieser Zusammenarbeit profitieren.“
