Infineon’s EZ-PD™ PMG1-S3, the industry’s first high voltage microcontroller with support for USB-PD 3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR) up to 28 V at 5 A (140 W). It expands the PMG1 family with 256 KB flash, 32 KB SRAM, 50 GPIOs, a full-speed USB device controller, a Crypto engine for authentication, and analog resources (ADC, OpAmp, comparators, CAPSENSE™). EZ-PD™ PMG1 family offers a unified firmware view with an SDK supported in ModusToolbox™, a collection of easy-to-use software and tools enabling rapid development of Infineon MCUs.
EZ-PD™ PMG1-S3 offers a highly integrated solution for PC docks, IoT and industrial applications such as energy houses and e-bikes that can benefit from the 140 W charging through UBC-C connector. Imagine an IoT sensor hub (e.g., humidity, accelerometer, temperature, etc.) powered through a USB-C port. The IoT devices usually have a USB-C port to sink power and another USB-C port to connect an external hard drive. Some of them come with a USB-A port as well to connect a flash drive to it. The IoT hubs also require a display with capacitive touch buttons and capacitive sliders. EZ-PD™ PMG1-S3 can address these functions with a single chip leading to a reduced bill of materials (BOM) and area.
EZ-PD™ PMG1-S3 is available in 48-QFN package for the single port version (CYPM1311) and 97-BGA package for the dual port version (CYPM1322). Both can be purchased in tray or tape and reel packing typologies.
