The Infineon HITFET™ Family enables more protection for low side applications
HITFET™ low-side switches offer a compelling feature set with its protection against over temperature, short circuit and overload conditions as well as ESD robustness. Infineon has recently expanded its portfolio with the new generation of products, named HITFET™+.
The HITFET™+ family based on a new technology provides an innovative technical concept for low-side switch applications. This new portfolio offers unique features for automotive low-side switches, enabling high PWM (up to 50kHz) applications and handling high inrush current loads with current limit trigger concept.
HITFET™+ 12V is the new generation of Infineon protected Low-side switches for automotive and industrial applications. This family is based on a new technology, enabling a significant shrink comparing to existing Classic HITFET™ 12V portfolio (up to 50 percent shrink). HITFET™+ 12V devices provide the ultimate design flexibility: This family consists of Standard (BTS3xxxEJ/TF) and fully featured low-side switches (BTF3xxxEJ/TE) from 11mOhm to 125mOhm in two different packages: TO252 (DPAK-3 and DPAK-5) and TDSO-8.
These devices are able to switch all kinds of resistive, inductive and capacitive loads, limited by the maximal clamping energy and current capabilities of the device. The over temperature protection prevents the device from overheating due to overload/or bad cooling conditions. All HITFET™+ 12V devices have an auto-restart thermal shut-down function. The device will turn on again, if input is still high, after the measured temperature has dropped below the thermal hysteresis. The over voltage protection can be activated during load dump or inductive turn off. The power MOSFET limits the drain-source voltage, if it rises above the VOUT(CLAMP).
The BTS3xxxEJ/TF devices are designed to address the same applications as Classic HITFET™ 12V (from 10mOhm to 100mOhm) and they are based on the standard features of Low-side switches which are built-in intelligence and protective features.
In addition to the basic standard features, the fully featured part of family (BTF3xxxEJ/TE) offers improved and additional features, such as:
- Driving applications with high switching speed requirements (up to 50kHz depending on DC)
- Enhanced smart current protection feature for addressing applications with high inrush current
- Dynamic temperature protection which improved the short circuit robustness of the devices (10x better than the Classic HITFET™ 12V)
- Dedicated STATUS signal for offering diagnosis
In terms of protection features, HITFET™+ 12V is offering:
