About

An SBC (System Basis Chip) is an integrated component that combines common system features required on Automotive ECUs on a single device. A System Basis Chip automotive solution typically integrates:

  • Communication transceivers (CAN FD, LIN)
  • Voltage regulators (LDO, DC-DC)
  • Diagnostics and supervision functions
  • Switches and wake inputs

How does an SBC microcontroller interface work?

System Basis Chips connect to the host microcontroller via an SPI, providing power management, communication, and monitoring in one simplified architecture. Infineon SBC support the following resources:

  • Evaluation Boards & Shield for Arduino
  • SBC Config Wizard (Configuration Tool)
  • SBC Microcontroller Library
  • Power Dissipation Tool & Bode Plot
  • CAN PN Configurator
  • Application Notes, User Manuals & Data Sheets, eLearnings for SBC, Lite and MR+
  • FIT Rates & Module/Area Breakdown

Infineon’s OPTIREG™ System Basis Chips offer high integration and high performance at an optimized system cost for a wide range of automotive applications. These include body control modules, gateways, closure modules (door, roof, tailgater, trailer), seat control modules, gear shifter, fuel pumps, HVAC, wireless in-cabin charger, transfer case, NOx sensors and exhaust modules, light control modules, and water pumps.

What features do OPTIREG™ System Basis Chips offer?

Our SBC automotive solutions combine:

  • Voltage supplies (LDO or DC-DC with up to 750 mA)
  • Communication interfaces: with CAN FD transceiver (up to 5 Mbps, ISO 11898-2:2016 compliant with Partial Networking option, and LIN transceiver (LIN2.2/J2602))
  • Supervision features: Wake input, watchdog, reset, interrupt and fail output

Our highly integrated system-on-chip solutions deliver key benefits through advanced diagnostic features and a reduced component count.

Key benefits of OPTIREG™ System Basis Chips:

  • Offers high integration and high performance at an optimized system cost for various automotive applications
  • Extends battery life with very low quiescent current modes
  • Improves the overall system reliability
  • Reduces the system cost through low component count and small PCB footprint (up to 80 percent smaller footprint)
  • Enables design flexibility and reduces software design effort through shared state machine and SPI access

Emerging automotive technologies demand greater ECU complexity while maintaining cost efficiency. Infineon’s System Basis Chips address these challenges by integrating power, diagnostics, and supervision features in a single chip.

How does the SBC family concept support scalability?

The OPTIREG™ System Basis Chip portfolio enables flexible, scalable designs to reduce complexity and accelerate development cycles. From the Lite SBC to the Multi-CAN Power+ SBC, this SBC automotive scalability concept reduces development complexity, accelerates design cycles, and enables engineers to reuse software across multiple ECU platforms.

Automotive designs require long-term component availability. Infineon's Smart Power Longevity Program ensures planned long-term availability for System Basis Chips and other Automotive Smart Power products.
