What does circular economy mean?

The circular economy is an economic model that stands in contrast to the traditional linear economy, which follows a "take-make-dispose" pattern. Instead of extracting resources, manufacturing products, using them, and then discarding them as waste, the circular economy focuses on designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in the economic loop as long as possible.

How are we contributing to a circular economy?

Circular economy plays a role at Infineon Technologies in three areas:

Firstly, we strive to optimize resource use [or efficiency] in our own company in a circular way wherever possible.

Secondly, we take a close look at how our products are designed in terms of the circular economy, for example to consider the use of materials or to optimize energy efficiency.

Ultimately, we are exploring how our products help to enable the circular economy.

SECORA™ Pay Green is a game-changer for payment card sustainability. With this solution, a small module holds the security controller and all software components, along with an eco-friendly Coil on Module (ECoM) package that integrates the contactless antenna. In addition, SECORA™ Pay Green stands out as the industry’s first payment solution that allows for fully recyclable card bodies.

Infineon Technologies AG has partnered with UK start-up Jiva Materials to introduce Soluboard, a recyclable and biodegradable printed circuit board (PCB) substrate made from natural fibers and a halogen-free polymer. This innovative material reduces the carbon footprint of the electronics industry by 60% and eliminates PCB waste, allowing electronic components to be recovered and recycled.
