Digital transformation and innovation are unimaginable without microchips such as sensors, microcontrollers, power semiconductors, communication modules and security components. They all work seamlessly together to make our lives more comfortable, more convenient – but also more sustainable, greener and more efficient. We at Infineon make IoT work and power tomorrow’s technologies with five different types of microchips:

Sensors
Sensors detect a vast range of environmental information and convert it into digital data.

Sensors capture environmental information and convert it into digital data. Ubiquitous sensors make IoT devices smarter and enable the “things” involved to “see”, “hear”, “feel”, “smell” and therefore understand their environment. They mark the starting point of each IoT system by picking up data from the environment surrounding a connected device.

Microcontrollers make things smart by processing, analyzing and communicating data to generate control signals for the IoT device. Specifications for microcontrollers in IoT devices are as varied as the IoT applications themselves.

Infineon’s microcontroller families provide the matching solutions, offering a broad variety of MCUs based on 32-bit Arm® architecture, Infineon’s 32-bit TriCore™ architecture, and others. These include microcontrollers in the XMC™ family and PSOC™ family that were custom-designed for IoT applications – from extremely energy-saving to extremely high-performance. The microcontrollers are backed up by an extensive portfolio of reliable, high-performance memories for embedded systems.

Reliable, fast and efficient: Depending on smart decisions, our actuators convert the control signals into actions – which is mostly motion, but also light and heat.

This actuation is performed by power semiconductors. Did you know that we are the market leader in power discretes and modules? We offer the broadest portfolio of all power technologies in the market containing a full-spectrum portfolio of all power technologies. This includes:

  • silicon (Si),
  • silicon carbide (SiC),
  • gallium nitride (GaN).

Our customers benefit from our market leadership to provide technology for optimizing power generation, transmission, storage, and consumption. We deliver actuators with power semiconductor solutions from milliwatts to megawatts with superior energy efficiency and reliability. Irrespective of whether you have a design in a microamp or megawatt range, you can rely on the energy efficiency of our actuators

Wireless technologies like Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, and Bluetooth Low Energy are the backbone of IoT. Only seamless communication between IoT devices, the cloud, and the network can ensure that the Internet of Things full potential is utilized.

We at Infineon deliver secured cellular connectivity based on eSIM solutions, Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, USB and USB-C products. We offer a broad portfolio and well-founded expertise in wireless solutions for IoT, including consumer, commercial, industrial, and automotive applications. But we are also a market leader in USB and USB-C technology, having shipped more than one billion of such units since 2008. Beyond that, we enable secure cellular connectivity for a wide range of applications like smart factories and consumer electronics.

  • Customers choose between Bluetooth Low Energy and dual-mode Bluetooth solutions that support both Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth LE.
  • The SDK, along with the ModusToolbox IDE and configurator tools, form a powerful but easy to use toolset that helps you create amazing Bluetooth-enabled IoT solutions.
  • To enable IoT designs with a very small form factor, we also offer AIROC™ Wi-Fi + Bluetooth combos: These integrate IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth into a single-chip solution

We may be able to connect to the internet from any device or location – but one thing remains unchanged: Security is key. Our security solutions are based on our market-leading competence in the field. It's simple: To function, IoT has to be secure.

Whether it’s about data processing or data storage – from smart watches to smart buildings: Our aim is to create trust in the digital world, so that users, enterprises, and organizations can unleash the full potential of the Internet of Things. Safe in the knowledge that their personal data, intellectual property, sensitive information, and industrial IP remain safe and unchanged. Security solutions can also contribute significantly to public safety.

Our security portfolio for IoT begins at the hardware-based root of trust to trusted execution environments and secured boot. At Infineon, we are able to offer personalization and injection of certificates and keys in a secured, certified environment. This makes security easy to implement while shortening development times – all without detracting from the ease of use

Small and sometimes secret to the eye but with a big impact: Microchips are key to many electronic and smart devices that make your life easier and better. By developing and producing the core components for the Internet of Things (IoT), we at Infineon shape the future of digital transformation and innovation. In daily life, this is well-known communication technology like your smart phone, which may also be connected to your smart home or wearables like fitness trackers or watches. No matter what the purpose is: IoT needs reliable, fast, and efficient components to work. In the future, microchips will play an increasingly important role. Whatever the future holds, our goal remains the same: As a state-of-the-art technology partner, we drive tomorrow’s IoT technologies.
