Functional safety-compliant products meet all relevant requirements for semiconductors as defined in the relevant functional safety standards. The Infineon automotive Ensured Compliance process framework has been certified by SGS-TÜV Saar for process compliance with ISO 26262:2018. This certification underpins our focus on automotive functional safety.

Functional safety-ready category designates QM products that can be integrated into a safety-related application by customer usage of ISO 26262-8:2018, Clause 13 or IEC 61508-2:2010, 7.4.4.1. For functional safety ready products Infineon is providing additional documentation to ease such an integration process.

QM category refers to automotive products, developed according to a best in class process, compliant to ISO 9001 and IATF 16949. Products in this category are provided without any additional functional safety information and support.

Functional safety-compliant devices meet all related requirements for semiconductors as defined in the relevant functional safety standards. These devices have been developed according to a project-specific safety plan, following the Infineon safety product lifecycle which encompasses all activities and work products required by the relevant functional safety standards, such as ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.

For functional safety-compliant products, Infineon provides a safety manual containing the safety-related technical information required for proper integration into safety-related applications.

A safety case report confirming the adequate achievement of functional safety is provided in addition.

The functional safety management organization, which is independent from R&D, supports the functional safety compliant lifecycle and assesses whether all applicable objectives defined by the functional safety standards have been fulfilled.

Functional safety-ready products are developed according to quality management (QM) process. Those products are provided with additional documentation, analysis and evaluation to support the integration into functional safety related applications.

The evaluation that the product functional behavior is suitable and sufficient to meet the allocated safety requirements for the particular application is in the responsibility of the integrator. Specific integration requirements of functional safety standards, such as ISO 26262-8:2018, Clause 13 or IEC 61508-2:2010, 7.4.4.1.2 may need to be applied by the integrator.

The additional documentation for functional safety-ready products contains a Safety Application Note (SAN) intended to facilitate the integrators evaluation process.

Infineon institutes and maintains a quality management system for all products. The QM standard development is using state of the art development compliant to, e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949 standards. All products fulfil high quality standards according to their specific application. Infineon quality stands for high reliability and robust designs beyond the industry standard. The integrator can expect products to be developed and supplied under a systematic, auditable quality management approach. This product development process provides the foundational framework for the development of all products, including functional safety products.
