About

Today's consumers expect more than buttons and dials. They want kitchen hoods or extractor fans that respond naturally, detect their presence, and offer premium haptic and voice interaction. Infineon's sensing and HMI portfolio makes all of this achievable in a single, coherent design.

XENSIV™ MEMS microphones (such as the IM66D130M) enable clear voice control even in a noisy kitchen environment, with ultra-low power operation and a digital PDM output. For presence-based auto-activation, the XENSIV™ BGT60UTR11AIP 60 GHz radar sensor detects sub-millimeter motion within a wide field of view, allowing the hood to activate automatically when someone steps in front of the hob.

Mechanical knobs can be replaced by TLV493D 3D magnetic sensors, which detect rotation and position with 12-bit resolution, 10 µA typical power consumption, and an I2C interface - enabling contactless, wear-free controls with a premium feel.

For touch panels and display interfaces, the PSOC™ 4 Multi-Sense MCU (such as the CY8C4046LQI-T452) combines CAPSENSE™ capacitive touch, inductive sensing, and liquid sensing in a single 32-bit Arm Cortex-M0+ device, simplifying the HMI subsystem and reducing BOM count.

The main control MCU runs every kitchen hood function—from fan speed control and safety monitoring to connectivity management and user interface processing. Infineon provides three scalable MCU options to match system complexity.

XMC1000 offers a robust, cost-optimized 32-bit Arm Cortex-M0 with dedicated motor-control peripherals, ideal for entry and mid-range hoods where system and motor control are integrated in one device.

PSOC™ 4 adds a richer analog/digital peripheral set, including a 12-bit SAR ADC, LCD drive, and built-in CAPSENSE™ capacitive sensing, enabling one MCU to manage both core control and a basic HMI.

For premium designs needing more compute headroom, stronger security, and WBG-ready peripherals, PSOC™ Control C3 (Arm Cortex-M33) delivers PSA Level 2/3 certified security, high-resolution PWM, and programmable hardware accelerators.

Combined with CoolGaN™ in the power stage, PSOC™ Control C3 supports efficient, secure, connected next-generation hoods.

All families are supported by ModusToolbox™ for streamlined firmware development and faster time to market.

Modern kitchen hoods need to connect seamlessly and securely to smart home ecosystems. Infineon's AIROC™ wireless portfolio gives you the flexibility to choose the right connectivity tier for every design.

The CYW55913 AIROC™ connected MCU combines tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth® LE 5.4, and a 192 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 in a single device - with native Matter over Wi-Fi support and WPA3 security built in. For designs requiring Wi-Fi 5 with Bluetooth® combo, the CYW4373 delivers dual-band 2.4/5 GHz connectivity with multi-layer security and broad OS support (Linux, Android, RTOS). Where a lightweight Bluetooth® LE link is sufficient, the CYW20829 provides Bluetooth® LE 5.4 with best-in-class -106 dBm receive sensitivity, secure boot, and hardware cryptographic acceleration.

All three devices are backed by 15-year longevity commitments and are supported through the ModusToolbox™ development environment, accelerating your path from prototype to production. If motor control is your core competency or if you want to integrate several functions such as motor, main, and touch control, our PSOC™ 6 is the right choice for you.

Every kitchen hood requires a reliable auxiliary power supply to power the MCU, sensors, connectivity module, and LED lighting from the mains. The auxiliary power stage must be compact, efficient, and robust enough for the demanding thermal environment of a kitchen appliance.

Infineon's CoolSET™ Switch family offers an integrated offline power stage solution that combines a CoolMOS™ power switch with a controller and protection functions in a single package. The ICE5AR0680AG-1, for example, integrates an 800 V CoolMOS™ with frequency jitter and an error amplifier optimized for flyback converter topologies - reducing component count, board space, and overall design complexity.

CoolSET™ devices include built-in protection features such as overcurrent protection, overtemperature protection, and soft-start, improving system robustness and simplifying compliance with safety standards. The integrated frequency jitter function also helps manage EMI, a common challenge in compact auxiliary supplies for home appliances.

For LED driver needs, the BCR431U linear LED driver IC provides a simple, reliable solution for hood lighting with minimal external components.

Quiet, energy-efficient motor operation is key to a competitive kitchen hood. Infineon offers a scalable motor-control stack—from MCUs to power stages—covering common design approaches.

Control options range from XMC1000 (Arm Cortex‑M0, up to 48 MHz) and PSOC™ 4 for cost-effective sensorless BLDC/PMSM control with integrated peripherals, to PSOC™ Control C3 (Arm Cortex‑M33, up to 180 MHz) for advanced field-oriented control using high-resolution PWM and hardware accelerators.

On the power stage, CIPOS™ intelligent power modules (Si IPMs) integrate switches and gate drivers in a compact package to simplify design and improve reliability. For higher switching frequency and power density, CoolGaN™ HEMTs with CoolGaN™ Drive gate drivers cut switching losses for an efficient wide-bandgap solution. Silicon MOSFETs and discrete IGBTs round out the portfolio when layout flexibility or thermal optimization is the priority.

For current feedback, TLI5570 coreless TMR sensors deliver precise phase-current measurement across the full operating range, supporting accurate FOC and smoother, quieter motor control.

Designing a competitive kitchen hood means balancing energy efficiency, low noise, smart connectivity, and cost—often at the same time. Infineon combines a broad portfolio, deep application expertise, and long-term supply commitment to help you meet these requirements with one trusted partner.

One portfolio, end-to-end coverage

From the mains input to the Wi-Fi antenna, Infineon supports every hood subsystem: auxiliary power, motor drive, main control, sensing, HMI, and connectivity. This reduces supplier count, simplifies qualification, and speeds integration.

Future-ready technology

A WBG-capable motor control stack (CoolGaN™ + PSOC™ Control C3) enables higher efficiency and smaller designs, while Matter-certified connectivity such as CYW55913 helps meet evolving smart-home interoperability needs.
