Advanced H2S protection
Reliability that pays off
Ruggedness is determining the longevity and thus the reliability of modules when it comes to applications working in harsh environments. Especially the exposure to hydrogen sulfide has a critical impact on the lifetime of electronic components. To meet these requirements we have developed an easy to integrate protection technology that can be implemented in existing system designs without any changes in functionality or performance.
Our advanced H2S protection is blocking hydrogen sulfide entering the module before reaching sensitive components. This is not only unique, but also the most effective methodology. The main features of our advanced H2S protection is an unmatched ruggedness combined with a plug and play usability as well as the coverage of the whole application range, offering the maximum of flexibility to our customers.
Market penetration of variable-frequency drives (VFD) continues to grow from year to year. Nowadays VFDs are widely used in many different industrial applications. In some specific applications, such as paper production, mining, wastewater, petrochemical, or the rubber industry, it may happen, that power semiconductors are exposed to the impact of corrosive gases.
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is the most critical corrosive contaminant for power semiconductors. IGBT modules in the operation mode usually are heated up to high temperature levels. This together with applied voltage and hydrogen sulfide contamination will trigger the growth of copper-sulfide (Cu2S) crystalline.
These conductive structures grow in the trenches of the DCB, and can cause a short circuit. As a result the lifetime of an inverter can be significantly reduced, due to the premature failures of IGBT modules.
Shield your equipment!
With our new advanced H2S protection, you can shield your equipment! The unique technology blocks H2S before it can reach any sensitive areas in the power module.
As a true plug-and-play solution, the new H2S protective package technology is very easy to integrate. All electrical, thermal, and mechanical parameters of the module are unchanged, and keep the same properties and performance as our standard modules. With this, you can comfortably extend the lifetime of your systems when operating under harsh environmental conditions.
20 years of lifetime
Our HV-H2S test is designed to qualify IGBT modules for operation under conditions according to ISA 71.04-2013 standard. The test covers a wide range of industrial applications, and provides a quantitative approach to assessing the reliability of IGBT modules, working under harsh H2S contamination.Protected by our new H2S technology, IGBT modules show no dendrite growth in comparison to a standard module under the same HV-H2S test conditions.
As a result, a lifetime of 20 years under the upper limit of the ”G3 severity level” according to ISA 71.04 can be calculated.
Highest flexibility
Our advanced H2S protection will be available for the complete Econo Low- and Medium Power product portfolio, providing highest flexibility in finding the best-fit products for your systems operating in harsh environments.
