Driveline starter generator 48V – Inverter ISG
Higher electrical power and efficiency in recuperation overcomes cost disadvantages
If the integrated Starter Generator iSG is Driveline-mounted in P2 - P5 configuration, the benefit of higher electrical power, higher electrical efficiency in recuperation, the capability of recuperating electrical energy with the engine off during coasting and the ability for short-distance pure electrical drive overcome the cost disadvantage of the small size high power density electric machine. Due to size limitations and high power density, the electric machine in most cases is a permanent magnet synchronous type with maximum peak power > 20 kW. The highest energy efficiency is achievable in P3 - P5 configurations because there are no more engine and transmission friction losses when the driveline is disconnected.
Infineon offers a complete and comprehensive system solution with high integration for space-saving ranging from supply IC’s, microcontroller, sensors, smart power driver, high power MOSFET, and transceivers. The block diagram below shows the basic layout of the semiconductors used to control a permanent magnet synchronous electric machine with maximum peak power > 20 kW. According to safety requirements, the key components µC, PMIC, and 3 phase Gate Driver are ISO26262 ASIL-D compliant.
