Comprehensive portfolio of CoolSET™ Switch quasi-resonant flyback ICs

The CoolSET™ Switch quasi-resonant (QR) family offers integrated power ICs optimized for offline switch mode power supplies (SMPS) in a cascode configuration. In a single package, they integrate a controller IC and a 800 V CoolMOS™ P7 superjunction MOSFET. Multiple configurations are available to meet broad requirements for power outputs ranging from 15 W to 42 W with home appliances such as refrigerators and A/C units, TVs, PCs, and industrial SMPS amongst the target applications. 

CoolSET™ Switch quasi-resonant ICs to minimize system disruption

Infineon’s CoolSET™ Switch quasi-resonant flyback ICs can achieve lower EMI and higher efficiency with improved digital frequency reduction through the proprietary novel quasi-resonant operation. In addition to standard build-in protection features such as output short-circuit and overload protection, the QR ICs incorporate additional measures to detect abnormal line inputs such as overvoltage and undervoltage. All protection modes are implemented with auto-resume to minimize system disruption. Further benefits, from auto-restart recovery to minimize system operation interruption, extensive protection coverage for system robustness, and a rapid start-up performance are achieved through its cascode configuration alongside configurable parameters adding an additional layer of design flexibility. Further BOM and footprint reduction are made possible by eliminating the need for a heatsink with the full range available in both through-hole and SMD packages.
