Production start in our new high-tech chip factory
Join our Mission Future!

On 17 September 2021, we celebrated the official start of production in our brand new, fully automated 300-millimeter thin wafer chip factory at our site in Villach, Austria.

From this day, the Infineon production team will be able to provide global markets with even more high-end power semiconductors that make life easier, safer and greener. Join us virtually in celebrating this milestone of Infineon and the global power semiconductor industry.

Making an impact with power semiconductors

Livestream recording: Ready for Mission Future

On 17 September 2021, we officially opened our new high-tech chip factory for power electronics on 300-millimetre thin wafers at the Villach site. The first fully processed wafers have already left the factory. The official opening of the new chip fab f.l.t.r. Martin Selmayr (Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Austria); Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Thomas Reisinger (Member of the Management Board Operations Infineon Austria), Reinhard Ploss (CEO Infineon Group), Sabine Herlitschka (CEO Infineon Austria); Jochen Hanebeck (Member of the Infineon Group Management Board and COO). The opening of the new high-tech chip factory in Villach is a major milestone in Infineon's history: Sabine Herlitschka (CEO Infineon Austria) and Reinhard Ploss (CEO Infineon Group). The guests on site experienced a varied opening ceremony. The "Power-Growth" team from Villach made the start of the new factory possible three months early.

Investing in the Future

The building activities for the new factory in Villach started in November 2018. Over 1.6 billion euros are invested in the fully automated production of power semiconductors and a R&D building complex. With this Infineon expands production capacities for energy-saving chips that are in high demand worldwide. They make a crucial contribution to achieving climate targets and enable the energy transition. This currently largest investment in the semiconductor industry on the continent is a clear signal for the sustainability of Europe as a technology location.
