Infineon Austria and University of Klagenfurt agree on strategic partnership

Villach, September 25, 2025 – Infineon Austria and the University of Klagenfurt sign a long-term cooperation agreement, thus setting up the proven cooperation in teaching, education and research for the future. The focus is on key technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital health and robotics.

The strategic partnership with the University of Klagenfurt marks another milestone in our long-standing collaboration. In doing so, we are strengthening practice-oriented research, application-oriented teaching and the pool of highly trained technical specialists right here in the region. The aim is to actively transfer knowledge and expertise in key technologies such as microelectronics, artificial intelligence, robotics and digital health. This strengthens the entire innovation location and is value creation in the best sense of the word."

Research, development and training

Infineon Austria and the University of Klagenfurt have been cooperating for many years and on many levels: From supporting the endowed professorships for Industry 4.0 and sustainable energy management, to regional and European research and development projects and scientific work. Students at Infineon gain a valuable insight into practice through internships, Bachelor, Master or PhD theses. Many Infineon employees have a degree from the University of Klagenfurt. They work in research, development, production and support areas. Infineon employees are also active in teaching and further education. The lecture hall in the main university building is also named after Infineon.

Ada Pellert, Rector of Alpen Adria University Klagenfurt: I am very pleased that we can now take further steps together with Infineon. We have now succeeded in incorporating the many existing collaborations into a strategic framework agreement. This will give an additional boost to our cooperation. The increased cooperation talks have also resulted in important focal points for future collaborations - for example in the areas of digital health, robotics and sustainability. The planned integrative personnel development and research collaborations as well as the development of innovative educational programs are also of great importance. Together, we are creating an enormous competitive advantage for both institutions and the entire region.

Key technologies in focus: digital health, AI and robotics

Future research will focus on a range of promising projects in various application areas. These include, for example, the areas of "digital health", i.e. applications and digital technologies to promote physical and mental health, "artificial intelligence", for example for diagnostics, surgery and care, as well as "robotics". The latter includes the development of sensors to support human-machine interaction. The focus here is on intelligent assistance systems, and therefore also the question of how technical developments can function intelligently and also be used intuitively to provide maximum benefit for people and the environment.
