About

Infineon's VCSEL driver ICs are designed to streamline the development and production of high-performance 3D cameras. Compared to discrete illumination driver concepts, these highly integrated VCSEL drivers reduce the number of components and simplify circuit complexity.

The VCSEL drivers feature a voltage-mode driver architecture optimized for use with Infineon's REAL3™ Time-of-Flight image sensors. The integrated LVDS input interface enhances signal integrity and ensures EMC robustness. Additionally, the drivers can be efficiently powered by an existing 3.3V supply for the imager. Combined with the imager's integrated current monitor for eye-safe designs, the REAL3™ bundle forms the most compact and cost-effective ToF module solution.

These driver ICs are also suitable for other fast-switching, laser-powered applications using a voltage-mode driver architecture, supporting both VCSEL and LED illumination types.

  • High VCSEL power drinving at fast modulation frequencies
  • Fast rise and fall times
  • Built-in fail-safe functions:
    • LVDS input with always-defined state
    • Thermal shutdown
    • Low supply voltage detection
    • Pulse-width limiter
  • Reduced BoM cost and minimized module size:
    • Integrated LVDS receiver, gate driver, and NMOS switch
    • 3.3V supply voltage (no separate supply needed for the integrated gate driver)
    • Ultra-compact form factor packages
  • Simplified design-in process and reduced circuit complexity

Whether it's iToF, dToF, LiDAR, laser distance scanning, or active 2D infrared technology, Infineon's VCSEL driver ICs are premier components for applications requiring fast-switching, voltage-mode-controlled light. These versatile drivers support a wide range of use cases across automotive, consumer, and industrial applications, including:

  • Robotic SLAM and obstacle avoidance
  • Biometric face authentication
  • AR/VR mapping
  • Gesture tracking
  • Low-light autofocus and bokeh
  • Automotive driver and occupant monitoring
  • And many more…

Infineon's VCSEL driver ICs are specifically optimized for use with REAL3™ Time-of-Flight image sensors. Together, they deliver the most robust, compact, and cost-effective ToF module solution for 3D camera systems.
