About

Infineon’s wide portfolio of 24 GHz radar sensors includes Doppler radar sensors as well as FMCW radar systems that can detect motion, and determine the direction of motion, speed, and depending on the antenna configuration, angle of arrival as well as position of single and multiple targets. These capabilities are ideally suited for applications such as indoor and outdoor lighting, cameras, doorbells and smart security devices, automated doors, and navigation features in multicopters and service robots.

Infineon's XENSIV™ 24 GHz transceivers provide a comprehensive portfolio of highly integrated solutions, offering a range of transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) channel configurations. Key products include:

  • BGT24LTR11: 1 Tx, 1 Rx – The smallest 24 GHz MMIC on the market
  • BGT24LTR22: 2 Tx, 2 Rx – A MMIC that enables advanced tracking functionalities

These XENSIV™ 24 GHz transceivers also deliver exceptional power efficiency, with power consumption values of less than 1 mW achievable through duty-cycling.

Discover the capabilities of Infineon's XENSIV™ 24 GHz low-power radar MMICs with our demo kits:

  • DEMO SENSE2GOL PULSE: Utilizing the BGT24LTR11, this demo showcases pulsed-Doppler low-power motion, speed, and direction of movement detection.
  • DEMO DISTANCE2GOL: Featuring the BGT24LTR11, this demo demonstrates software-controller FMCW low-power range measurements and 1D tracking of humans.

Associated software packages, PCB Design Files, and technical documentation are offered to support your development needs.

  • Detection Range: Infineon’s 24 GHz transceivers enable long-range motion detection and distance measurements. Distances of up to 100 m can be covered, which makes them ideal for outdoor areas or industrial applications which require long-range detection capabilities.
  • Customization: Depending on the individual antenna design, detection range and field of view can be defined. By deploying more receiving channels, accurate position of a single or multiple targets can be tracked.
  • Cost-efficient: 24 GHz modules can be designed cost-effectively.
  • Robustness: 24 GHz sensors are less sensitive to changes in environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, fog, dust, ambient light, etc. than many other sensors.
  • Obstruction: For detection through non-conductive obstacles or if thick product housing materials are applied, 24 GHz sensors are a good choice since they get less attenuated than higher frequencies.
  • Regulation: The 24 GHz ISM range is clearly and uniformly regulated worldwide.
  • Established technology: 24 GHz radar sensors have been used in industrial and automotive applications for around 20 years.

24 GHz radar sensors are used in a variety of industrial and consumer applications, where accurate and reliable sensing capabilities are required.

Exemplary applications:

  • Smart home: Detect movements and presence of humans to automatically control lighting and other smart home systems for enhanced user experience and energy saving
  • HVAC systems: Automatic turn on and turn off, people positioning for airflow management
  • Outdoor and industrial lighting: Automatic turn on and off based on human movements
  • Security and surveillance systems: Detect and track intruders on even the smallest movements for enhanced security and safety
  • Industrial automation: Detect objects, measure distances, monitor machinery movements and more for efficient and safe operation
  • Traffic monitoring: Detect vehicles and measure their speed for real-time traffic flow analysis and optimization
  • Multicopters, drones and service robots: Distance measurement for collision avoidance and landing control
  • Level sensing: Level measurement and monitoring in tanks and containers for liquids and non-liquids
