Manufacturing slimmer and lighter adapters require ICs that enable high efficiency with good electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance and low standby power. There is also a need for cost-effective MOSFETs in small packages that feature good EMI and excellent thermal performance. Infineon offers a wide range of products specifically designed for adapters including high-voltage MOSFETs and controls ICs for PFC and PWM stages, as well as low-voltage MOSFETs for synchronous rectification. With these products, Infineon supports the trend towards a significantly higher efficiency level, especially in partial load conditions, as well as the miniaturization of the adapter.
Infineon’s USB-Type-C power control and delivery ICs support flexible programmable power supplies to be used for laptop chargers, phone chargers,s or advanced wall sockets.
Dual-port-charger ICs control and decide how much power is needed on the respective port depending on the system connected to the port.
There is shared information between the two USB-C ports, that allows them to cooperate with one another to know how much power to advertise. As long as one port is attached and one port is empty, the attached port will offer full power. But when a second sink is attached to the second port, then the first port will reduce by half how much power it's advertising to the sink. And then both ports will advertise half the power or balance the power depending on the connected system.
Using Infineon USB-PD controllers the advanced feature set will get you a much simpler system. You improve efficiency and you reduce the BOM costs with this approach.
As demand grows for smaller sized chargers for mobile devices, manufacturers face a host of new challenges. They need, for instance, solutions for better thermal performance and efficiency as well designs suitable for large-volume production without manual processes.
To meet the demands of mobile device chargers, Infineon provides a wide selection of reliable, efficient, high voltage and low voltage MOSFETs. Full automation – especially ideal for large-volume production – is even possible with our innovative new ThinPAK 5x6. Innovative CoolGaN™ technology raises the bar in terms of power density for adapter and charger systems, enabling ~20 W/in3 power density systems (for 65 W maximum output power). For instance, by implementing Infineon’s CoolGaN™ in a half-bridge topology, your design benefits from both increased switching frequency and efficiency.
Choose Infineon for your charger for mobile devices project and enjoy peace of mind knowing we can deliver the large volumes you need in reputable Infineon quality.
As laptops get slimmer and sleeker, consumers desire slim, sleek laptop chargers to match. But successfully manufacturing slimmer, lighter chargers require MOSFETs in small packages that feature a good electromagnetic interference (EMI) and excellent thermal performance.
Turn to Infineon and find precisely what you’re looking for: reliable and top-quality high voltage and low voltage MOSFETs. Optimum for producing laptop chargers and notebook adapters that meet today’s requirements in terms of size and weight. With our extensive portfolio of MOSFETs, controller ICs, and innovative new CoolGaN™ products, Infineon is the one supplier for all your laptop charger needs. Secure Firmware Update solution integrated into Infineon’s USB charger ICs allows the update of devices via a built-in feature set. Updating your product with new firmware versions, adding new features, and correcting potential issues. The update process is securely controlled and monitored to prevent unauthorized updates and access to confidential on-device data.
Feature for a secure firmware update on a CCG7D/2xCCG3PA based dual-port charger:
- Firmware (FW) Authentication uses RoTPK
- RoTPK – Root of Trust Public Key
- Public Key stored in Write Protected Flash Area
- Crypto Algorithms for Authentication
- Digital Signature Algorithm: RSA-2048
- Hash algorithm: SHA-256
- FW update is done over I2C or CC interface
- Bootloader performs Signed FW update
- RoTPK and Bootloader reside in Flash
- FW accepted only when signed with Private Key corresponding to RoTPK
USB-C doesn't have to have USB power deliver with it. But what USB power delivery allows you to increase the amount of power. So with USB 2.0 and 3.1, you can get 500 milliamps to 900 milliamps. BC 1.2 allows you to get to 1.5 amps. There are some proprietary techniques that can go higher power. With the move to Type-C, you can do the same as BC 1.2 with 1.5 amps, but then you can go all the way up to 15 watts, which doubles the amount of power from USB before. But that's as far as you can go with just Type-C.
Using USB power delivery, you can get up to 100 watts, because you can increase the voltage, first of all, up to 20 volts. And you can increase the current up to 5 amps.
