The new PQFN 8x6 is a high performance clip-based package optimized to handle very high currents up to 650 A, with significant increase in power density and a substantial reduction in footprint.

A footprint reduction of >50 percent compared to TOLL, together with a height reduction of 100 percent, results in an overall space saving of >70 percent enabling much more compact designs.

The seamless backward compatibility of this package with PQFN 5x6 enables power scalability of the same board or enable less paralleling of MOSFETs (ex: replace two PQFN 5x6 with one PQFN 8x6 solution).

PQFN 8x6 is a power packed innovative package solution the fills the gap in package sizes between PQFN 5x6 and TOLL. It can achieve high power levels similar to TOLL and is very compact by being slightly larger than PQFN 5x6.

The superior product performance of PQFN 8x6 was demonstrated by testing the industry-best IQFH61N06NM5 (OptiMOS™ 5, 60 V NL, 0.61 mΩ max) against best-in-class products available internally in TOLL IPT007N06NS (OptiMOS™ 5, 60 V NL, 0.75 mΩ max), PQFN 5x6 BSC012N06NS (OptiMOS™ 5, 60 V NL, 1.2 mΩ max) packages and competitor’s best-in-class PQFN 8x8 60 V NL solution during DC & Pulsed current tests.

We observe the new PQFN significantly outperforms competition by >30% allowing for cooler operation, enabling reliable operation and product robustness.

A 3-phase inverter testing to compare the performance of a single PQFN 8x6, IQFH61N06NM5 (OptiMOS™ 5, 60 V NL, 0.61 mΩ max) with two PQFN 5x6 in parallel, BSC012N06NS (OptiMOS™ 5, 60 V NL, 1.2 mΩ max) of similar performance was done on a combo board created to accommodate both products.

Results demonstrated similar performance for both combinations resulting in 27% reduction in overall board space when using PQFN 8x6.
