The Important Project of Common European Interest in Microelectronics and Communication Technologies (IPCEI ME/CT), a successor project to the IPCEI ME, deals with research and development projects in the fields of microelectronics and communication technologies along the entire value chain. These projects aim to enable the digital and green transition through innovative solutions and energy-efficient, resource-saving systems and manufacturing processes.

The IPCEI ME/CT comprises 68 projects and involves over 30 associated participants from universities, research organisations and companies - including Infineon - in 14  EU Member States:  Austria, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.

IPCEI ME/CT spillover activities include the following areas:

Infineon will actively engage with educational institutions and STEM talent with a particular emphasis on eastern and south-eastern European countries, Italy and Spain. We support students during their studies with a range of funding programmes, including internships, master's and PhD scholarships. Infineon is cooperating with numerous European universities and research institutions in several projects.

These collaborations are designed to promote the development of talent and drive expertise in microelectronics and communications technologies. Infineon is committed to supporting the next generation of technology experts and increasing innovation in Europe.

Our IPCEI ME/CT activities help Europe become more independent and competitive in semiconductors. They contribute to the European Semiconductor Research Strategy by developing energy-efficient manufacturing technologies in wide bandgap power electronics and fostering innovation while strengthening the resilience of industry and research.

Infineon is planning R&D&I activities in the following three sub-projects in the IPCEI’s ACT work stream: Power SiC 200mm for energy efficient electronics, Integrated Power GaN 200mm for high efficiency and power density, and ultra-thin Power MOSFETs 300mm for leading energy efficiency and faster time to market.

Infineon's IPCEI ME/CT project offers several benefits for Europe through industry collaboratons across value chains. It boosts European production capacities by developing new technologies, equipment and materials geared towards Industry 4.0+ and improves competitiveness throughout the value chain.

The project also promotes international collaboration by working with SMEs and IPCEI partners across Europe, uniting top experts to achieve shared objectives. This collaboration leads to unique solutions, accelerates development, and shortens market introduction times in areas of shared European interest, thereby strengthening European expertise.
