Rad hard power ICs

Rad hard high-side and low-side MOSFET gate drivers to increase reliability, reduce solution size and weight

anchor

Overview

Infineon's IR HiRel-branded rad hard power IC solutions are engineered to complement our industry-leading rad hard MOSFETs. The rad hard high-side and low-side MOSFET gate drivers are rated at 100 krad(Si) for total ionizing dose (TID) and have been characterized for single event effects (SEE). IR HiRel space-grade gate drivers increase power system reliability and reduce solution size and weight.

Key Features

  • Single-event effect (SEE) hardened
  • Wide bias supply voltage range
  • Full military temperature range
  • Hermetically sealed package

About

Potential applications for Infineon's IR HiRel-branded radiation hardened ICs include:

  • Satellite bus and payload
  • Power conditioning unit
  • Power distribution unit
  • Motor drive

HiRel products, unlike standard commercial ones, must undergo quality conformance testing at various levels to ensure product performance to specifications in the rugged conditions typical in space and defense applications.

In the United States, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is the controlling agency and has issued specifications that govern the quality conformance testing sequence performed on semiconductor devices and hybrid modules, namely MIL-PRF-19500/MIL-STD-750, MIL-PRF-38534/MIL-STD-883, and MIL-PRF-38535/MIL-STD-883.

Infineon's IR HiRel-branded rad hard ICs are available with the following quality conformance inspections (QCI) levels:

  • Class S-level equivalent microcircuits screened per MIL-PRF-38535 and MIL-STD-883 Test Methods 5004 and 5005, manufactured and tested on a DLA certified production line. Class S-level part numbers have SCS suffixes.
  • Class B-level equivalent microcircuits screened per MIL-PRF-38535 and MIL-STD-883 Test Methods 5004 and 5005, manufactured and tested on a DLA certified production line. Class B-level part numbers have SCB suffixes.
  • Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) with no QCI have no suffix.

Infineon has a long history serving the space industry. We understand the engineering and manufacturing requirements and challenges of designing for reliable performance in the extreme thermal, mechanical, and radiation environments of space. For decades, customers have relied on our rad hard power solutions in thousands of mission-critical space, aerospace, and national security programs. Many of these spacecrafts are still in flight today.
