Overview

In a full converter wind turbine, a generator is fully decoupled from the grid by the converter; the entire wind turbine power flows through the converter. Full converters for low-, medium- and high-speed generators provide maximum flexibility to meet LVRT and other grid stability requirements. Our IGBTs enable modular and scalable power converter designs, thereby helping our customers to realize larger power rated wind turbines.

PrimePACK™ 3+ is a state-of-the-art power module package for full converters. Apart from IGBT5 .XT, we also recommend PrimePACK™, EconoDUAL™, and EconoPACK™+ with IGBT4 chip technology for full-converter-based wind turbines.

PrimePACK™ is the optimal choice for the majority of high-power inverters like wind power units. IGBT5 and .XT are the dawning of a new era in IGBT chip and interconnection technologies. IGBT5 allows higher power density, whereas the new interconnection technology .XT extends lifetime by increased thermal and power cycling capabilities.

EconoDUAL™ 3 modules are equipped with IGBT4 technologies for the highest power density and leading-edge power cycling capability. The portfolio supports the complete current ranges from 450 A up to 600 A at 1700 V.

EiceDRIVER™ is the name of a family of IGBT drivers consisting of driver boards and driver ICs. 2ED300C17-S is designed for use in industrial applications and 2ED300C17-ST, with a special coating, for use in more demanding applications like wind turbines.
