About

Door electronics are an essential part of automotive cabin functionality; and allow vehicle access and an enhanced user-driver experience.

Premium functionality of an automotive door control unit:

  • Window lift with anti-pinch functionality: safety-critical window close function to detect and prevent trapped body parts
  • Door locking: lock or unlock doors, including central locks and child lock controls in rear doors. Smart power closure module for power doors
  • Driver door switch pad: central control for window, door lock, and mirror adjustment in the vehicle
  • Mirror adjustment: horizontal and vertical movement of driver and passenger mirrors, including mirror folding
  • Mirror defroster: heating function for mirrors in cold climates
  • Electrochromic mirror: automatic glare control for rear approaching headlights during nighttime
  • Illumination: puddle lamp to illuminate the door or mirror when exiting the vehicle at night, ambient lighting indoors and on mirrors, etc.

These functions require accurate control, diagnosis, and protection, which are met by Infineon's comprehensive product portfolio.

  • OPTIREG™ SBC: A single chip combines supply, communication, diagnosis, switching functions, and failsafe output.
  • OPTIREG™ Linear: High-performance linear voltage regulators with ultra-low quiescent current and a wide input voltage.
  • Communication interfaces: Physical and modular interfaces for automotive LIN and CAN communication, catering to basic and premium needs.
  • MOTIX™ DC motor system IC: Combines supply, communication, diagnosis, switching functions, and failsafe output with half-bridge gate drives.
  • MOTIX™ multi half-bridge IC: MOTIX™ TLE9166EQ for door control drives six half bridges for mirror folding and adjustment, as well as four high-side switches for LED lighting. The device is optimized as companion device to TLE956x.
  • MOTIX™ full-bridge IC: MOTIX™ BTM90xx full-bridge ICs are available in non-SPI and SPI variants, thus supporting a daisy chain operation. The supply voltage range is 7 – 28 V and for transients is at 4.5 – 40 V in a small package with extensive protections and diagnostics features.
  • MOTIX™ multi-MOSFET driver IC: Controls up to eight external half-bridges and offers best-in-class quiescent current.
  • OptiMOS™ N-channel automotive MOSFETs: Ideal for driving high currents.
  • MOTIX™ single half-bridge IC (NovalithIC™): A low-ohmic-protected single half-bridge switch with integrated MOSFETs.
  • PROFET™ and SPIDER: Designed for illumination control.
  • XENSIV™ Hall sensors: Tracks window lift position, including direction and speed.

As with many power motor control designs, one of the critical aspects is controlling EMC emissions during PWM operation. The Infineon MOTIX™ products (multi MOSFET driver IC and DC motor system IC) embed an innovative adaptive MOSFET control feature that effectively reduces switching power dissipation while sustaining EMC performance. The multi-MOSFET driver IC also provides a means to increase thermal efficiency by decoupling thermal hotspots in an integrated design, i.e., isolating the power stages (MOSFETs) from the power supply, communication, and gate drive. Easy layout and minimized EMC filtering can be achieved through the new half-bridge-configured MOSFET family (IAUC60N04S6 family).

An additional challenge for the door module designer is the increasing number of configurable variants driven by a car manufacturer’s platform strategy. To easily support the diverse variants with a single PCB design, scalability within product families has become necessary. Infineon’s TRAVEO™ T2G MCU family has a range of memory and I/O capabilities to support a flexible platform design. The MOTIX™ family of multi half-bridges, MOSFET drivers, and half-bridges, for example, has the most scalable portfolio of half-bridges in the market.
