About

Inverters in compressors and fans drastically decrease power consumption and lower noise levels. That is why most of today´s aircons are already inverterized. Intelligent power modules (IPMs) are the best choice to reduce system size and assembly costs. They also improve manufacturability and system reliability. Infineon offers a wide range of current classes that especially suit air conditioners up to 3 kW with a single package platform.

Active PFC is a must-have in aircons. It not only leads to higher efficiency but also to lower costs and smaller inductor sizes. Infineon offers a wide range of integration levels and current classes to cover all relevant PFC topologies – from a simple boost PFC to a totem pole PFC. Our TRENCHSTOP™ 5 WR6 IGBT technology, reverse conducting diodes, and EiceDRIVER™ low-side drivers provide you with the performance and flexibility you need.

Here is an example:

Infineon´s 1ED44175N01B comes in a 6-pin SOT-23 package. That means it is smaller and less expensive than the more commonly used DSO packages with 8 pins. It has built-in overcurrent protection, so no need to use an external comparator. The 1ED44175N01B is also featured in our aircon reference design REF-AIRCON-C302A-IM564 with its built-in PFC functionality. It can of course also be used in a discrete set-up with our TRENCHSTOP™ 5 WR5 IGBT IKW40N65WR5 and Rapid 1 power silicon diode IDW60C65D1.

You need a motor controller that suits your needs in terms of speed, memory, pins, size, and many other features. Look no further, we have it all. Looking for a high-performance motor controller to control several motors at once? Go for the XMC7000. Very simple and inexpensive motor control? XMC1300 is your choice. You don´t want to spend any effort in programming a motor controller, the iMOTION™ motor controller can do just that. And whenever you want to integrate functions such as touch sensing or connectivity with motor control, the PSoC™ microcontrollers were built for exactly that!

Air conditioners already make our lives more convenient. By adding the right sensors, they become more intelligent to know what the user needs to make it even more convenient. Microphones can take in voice commands. Radars can detect motion to save energy. It can also track where people are to provide just the right airflow at the right spot in the room. CO2 sensors sense the quality of the air to let in fresh air or turn on UV-C or ionizing functions. Hall sensors detect if a window is open to turn off the aircon. Pressure sensors can detect clogged filters or measure the airflow. There are many more innovative features that can be implemented using sensors. Touch sensing also becoming more and more prevalent. Our PSoC™ microcontrollers are the number one solution in the market for touch sensing. So, get in touch with us to learn how our sensor solutions can make your aircon more innovative.

Today´s aircons are connected to the internet. Not just to turn them on while you are on your way home but also to provide firmware updates, predictive maintenance, and several other novel features. Infineon offers a large portfolio of Wi-Fi 4, Wi-Fi 5, and Wi-Fi 6 as well as Bluetooth® options. Hardware security can be implemented with our OPTIGA™ Trust secure element.
