Wien, Villach, 25. September 2023 - After last year's extremely successful premiere, ORF and Infineon Technologies Austria are launching the second edition of the "Women's Award for Digitization and Innovation". Young, technology-savvy women will once again be given the opportunity to present themselves and their ideas and projects and to attract the attention of the industry.

Austria's largest media company and the successful semiconductor company Infineon are focusing on women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) with this award, which is under the honorary protection of the Federal Minister for Women, Family, Integration and Media, MMag.a Dr.in Susanne Raab. Once again, it shows how diverse and successful women are in contributing their talents in the field of technology and digitization, and how exciting and interesting it is for young women to focus on these fields in their training and careers.

All information and details about the award and submissions are available at extra.ORF.at.

MMag. a Dr. in Susanne Raab, Federal Minister for Women, Family, Integration and Media: "Austria is a country of great female scientists, technicians and innovators! I therefore support the Women's Award for Digitization and Innovation initiated by Infineon Austria and ORF because it offers young women a great forum to present their outstanding ideas. I am very pleased to be the honorary patron for this award."

Dipl.-Ing. in Dr. in Sabine Herlitschka, MBA, CEO Infineon Technologies Austria: "The future is STEM, the future needs STEM. With no other education is there a greater chance to make the world a bit greener, better and fairer by our own efforts. At Infineon, we work every day on solutions for the major challenges of our time, such as the climate crisis, sustainable mobility and the efficient use of energy. As one of Austria's strongest research companies, we offer highly attractive career opportunities to young talents with technical training - especially women. At Infineon Austria, we have doubled the share of female employees in technical professions since 2014, and have more than quadrupled the share of women in research and development since then. We are convinced change is possible if we actively work on it and make women more visible in the high-tech world. That's why I'm looking forward to many impressive submissions for the 'Women's Award for Digitization and Innovation'. Today's female STEM graduates are already role models for the next generation, we give them a stage!"

Dr. Harald Kräuter, ORF Director of Technology and Digitization: "Cloud, data, automation, and most recently AI - behind these keywords lies a rapidly advancing technological evolution. Nothing is more exciting than being involved in these and many other developments and thus actively shaping our future. Efficiently integrating new technologies that are of interest to a modern media company like ORF into production processes and publication workflows, using them creatively and developing them further, is always the decisive basis for being a modern, high-quality public service provider on all relevant media platforms for the benefit of our audience. In the current months in particular, we are setting significant new accents in this area - for example, with the planned new streaming platform ORF ON. With the 'Women's Award for Digitization and Innovation', we are now offering young female talents a forum for presenting their skills in precisely these technology areas, and at the same time we want to increase young women's interest in STEM professions. After last year's very positive premiere, I am particularly pleased that we, as a media company with a focus on digitization and multimedia, are able to offer this award for the second time together with Infineon."

The details
The "Women's Award for Digitization and Innovation", organized by ORF and Infineon, honors women whose final theses (HTL, university of applied sciences, college or university in Austria) from the years 2022 and 2023 deal in an outstanding way with digitization and innovation as well as their environment in the fields of information and communication technologies, engineering and natural sciences, media systems and creative technologies. Among all submitted works, the special prize "Young Talents" will also be awarded to a female HTL graduate, as well as the special prize "Tech for Green" for the special consideration of aspects of sustainability.

After an advisory board has drawn up a shortlist from all the submissions, the finalists are then invited to present their theses to a prominent jury of experts, who then select the winners and award the two special prizes "Young Talents" and "Tech for Green".

The submission period starts on September 25, 2023 and ends on December 4, 2023 at 12:00 noon. The shortlist presentations as well as the announcement and presentation of the awards and all prizes will take place on March 7, 2024 in Vienna.
