About

By implementing an innovative power QFN package, which utilizes PCB copper traces to dissipate heat from the module, the CIPOS™ Nano family delivers a new benchmark in device size, offering up to a 60 percent smaller footprint than existing three-phase motor control power IPMs.

CIPOS™ Nano family also offers the fully integrated iMOTION™ IPMs which combine the industry-leading iMOTION™ MCE 2.0 (Motor Control Engine) and the three-phase inverter in a highly compact 12 x 12 mm package.

The CIPOS™ Nano IPMs incorporates important key features, such as motor drive-optimized fast recovery FETs, heatsink-less operation, a wide range of footprint compatible parts, integrated bootstrap functionality, and overcurrent protection which is included in 12 x 12.

The key benefits are, among other things, cost savings from a smaller footprint and reduced PCB space, easy implementation of two- or three-phase motor drives with half-bridge IPMs, same PCB footprint to address multiple application markets (100 VAC – 230 VAC), and half-bridge configuration which enables more flexible board design with better thermal performance.

State of the art sensorless algorithm for permanent magnet motor control is described in this video. Common pitfalls of sensorless control, such as a non-controlled startup are easily avoided with the Motion Control Engine (MCE) inside infineon iMOTION devices.A clean startup, without vibrations and oscillations is demonstrated with a low inertia fan motor.

iMOTION™ ICs integrate hardware and software functionality required for controlling PMSM motors with field-oriented control (FOC) (with and without sensors). iMOTION™ products are based on Infineon’s patented, field-tested Motion Control Engine (MCE), which eliminates software coding from the development process. As a result, all users have to do to implement a variable speed drive is configure the MCE for the respective motor drive system.

Why Infineon is the best partner - The CIPOS™ IPMs are families of highly integrated, compact power modules. See how we designed them to drive motors in applications ranging from home appliances, fans, pumps to general purpose drives.
