About

XC87x-series expands Infineon’s 8-bit XC800 MCU family to provide more scalable performance and up to 64 KB flash memory for cost-sensitive industrial and automotive applications. Operating at up to 26.7 MHz and equipped with a 16-bit vector computer, XC87x MCUs offer 16-bit performance at 8-bit costs. This exceptional performance, coupled with two independent PWM units with up to 10 PWM outputs and a 10-bit analog-digital converter (ADC), makes these devices ideal for implementing field-oriented control (FOC) and power factor correction (PFC) at the lowest system cost. The devices also are designed to enable the simplified development of controller area network (CAN) systems through an on-chip MultiCAN interface. The XC87x-series provides two package options, XC878 in LQFP-64 and XC874 in VQFN-48 package.

The XC87x features both a CAN controller and LIN support integrated on a single chip to provide advanced networking capabilities. The on-chip CAN module reduces the CPU load by performing most of the functions required by the networking protocol (masking, filtering, and buffering of CAN frames).

The XC87x is equipped with embedded flash memory to offer high flexibility in development and ramp-up. The XC87x memory protection strategy features read-out protection of user intellectual property (IP), along with flash program and erase protection to prevent data corruption.

The flash architecture supports in-application programming (IAP), allowing the user program to modify flash contents during program execution. In-system programming (ISP) is available through the boot ROM-based bootstrap loader (BSL), enabling convenient programming and erasing of the embedded flash via an external host (for example, personal computer).
