XC858-series (industrial and multimarket)

Low-cost solutions for motor control and automation

anchor

Overview

Controller area network (CAN) – robust serial bus for noisy environments like auto/industrial control. Infineon's MultiCAN enhances CAN: more nodes, linked list message object management, and TTCAN L2 support. XC85x-series in the XC800 family designed for CAN, integrates MultiCAN (CAN V2.0B). On-chip CAN module cuts CPU load by handling networking protocol functions (masking, filtering, buffering).

Key Features

  • High-performance XC800 core
  • MultiCAN with two nodes
  • 32 message objects shared
  • Up to 1 Mbps data transfer rates
  • Up to 8 interrupt nodes
  • Automatic FIFO
  • Gateway mode support
  • Advanced acceptance filtering
  • On-chip OSC and PLL
  • Package: PG-TQFP-64
  • Temperature (SAF): -40°C to 85°C

About

CAN is a robust serial bus designed for board-to-board communication in noisy environments such as automobile and industrial control systems.

MultiCAN developed by Infineon improves upon previous CAN implementations by adding features such as additional CAN nodes, more message objects, linked list management of message objects, and support for TTCAN level 2.

The XC858 CA is a new member of the XC800 family which is dedicated to CAN application by integrating a MultiCAN controller that supports CAN (V2.0B). The on-chip CAN module reduces the CPU load by performing most of the functions required by the networking protocol (masking, filtering, and buffering of CAN frames).

Additional key features include up to 64 KB of embedded flash memory, an intelligent PWM unit, and a highly accurate 10-bit ADC with fast conversion speed.

  • Power saving modes
  • Powerful message transfer control and error-handling capabilities
  • Advanced CAN bus bit timing analysis and baud rate detection via a frame counter
  • Multiple serial communication: Two UART and one high-speed SPI compatible, synchronous serial interface SSC
  • Power-down mode with fast wake-up capability via RxD or EXINT0
  • Clock gating control to each peripheral
  • Programmable 16-bit WDT
  • Five ports to 40 pins as digital I/O
