About

RC-Drives IGBT technology has been developed by Infineon as a cost-optimized solution for the sensitive consumer drives market. This basic technology provides outstanding performance for permanent magnet synchronous and brushless DC motor drives.

A new version of the RC-Drives Fast IGBT was developed specifically for the low-power motor drive consumer market: IGBT and diode losses are optimized to reduce the inverter losses at switching frequencies of 18-30 kHz. RC-Drives Fast enables high-efficiency designs for inverters above 16 kHz to reduce the audible noise to an absolutely silent level. The small size of the components allows high power density designs with less system costs.

The products incorporate important key features, such as, optimized parameters for up to 20% lower switching losses, operating range of DC to 30 kHz, maximum junction temperature of 175°C, short-circuit capability of 5 µs, very tight parameter distribution, best-in-class current versus package size performance, and smooth switching performance leading to low EMI levels.

The key benefits are, among other things, excellent cost/performance for hard switching applications, outstanding temperature stability, very good EMI behavior, up to 60% space saving on the PCB, and higher reliability due to monolithically integrated IGBT and diode due to less thermal cycling during switching.

The RC-Drives (f ≤ 4 kHz) can be used in several applications, such as fridge compressors, pumps, fans, and air conditioning compressors.

The RC-Drives Fast (4 kHz ≤ f ≤ 30 kHz) are ideal for applications like washing machines, general-purpose inverters, air conditioning compressors, or hard switching topologies up to 1.0 kW.
