RFbeam offering a new 60 GHz level sensing module

with Infineon’s XENSIVTM BGT60UTR11AIP radar sensor

RFbeam, an Associated Partner of Infineon and a leading supplier of radar sensor modules offers an easy-to-use 60 GHz FMCW distance radar sensor with integrated signal processing with the V-LD1 module.

About the V-LD1 module

The module can be adapted to different applications, without special knowledge in analog or digital signal processing required, resulting in a fast system integration and time-to-market. The sweep bandwidth and the transmit frequency are controlled internally and a selection of settings is available to adapt to the requirements of various applications.

Features of the V-LD1 module & eval kit

The V-LD1 module

  • consists of a small and low-cost digital 60 GHz FMCW radar distance sensor
  • offers precise distance measurement with mm accuracy, up to 50 m (depending on the medium and used lens)
  • has ultra-small SMD form factor (12 mm × 16 mm)
  • offers ultra-low power consumption and fast start-up time.

The beam width of the module itself is 172 × 60 degrees. However, RFbeam also offers an evaluation kit combined with a plastic lens that focuses the beam to 8 × 8 degrees, perfect for tank-level gauging applications.

The V-LD1 evaluation kit

  • comprises a PCB with a mounted V-LD1 sensor in the center
  • features an easy connection to a PC over a simple USB connection without needing an external power supply

Benefits of the V-LD1 module

  • Offering a single 1.8 V power supply for simple integration
  • Combinable with a plastic lens for higher detection distances.
  • A distance output over a serial UART interface and RAW data readout support (Distance spectrum, ADC values)
  • An integrated bootloader for firmware updates

The module is adaptable to a wide range of applications, such as:

surveillance
Drones
Robots

With the V-LD1 evaluation kit, RFbeam provides comprehensive software including GUI, where all the sensing parameters can be modified. The influence of changed parameters can be directly checked in the real-time views of the software. The control panel features many views to analyze the measured data in detail. Furthermore, it is possible to record all measured data and replay it directly in the software to examine different application scenarios offline without the sensor.
