With electric vehicles (EVs) becoming viable alternatives to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles in some markets, the demand for DC EV charging infrastructure is growing. Currently, this is especially true in China where EVs have gained momentum within the rapidly expanding middle class. The United States is expected to follow soon.
For these markets to accommodate EVs on a larger scale, drivers must be able to charge quickly. DC charging stations are an attractive choice because they allow for much faster charging than a standard AC EV charging pile, which many EV owners have at home. Today, a DC charging pile with 120kW can put a 100km charge on an EV in around in just 10-12 minutes. As both, fast charging and battery technologies improve the charging time will drop even further.
