Smart Mobility
Mobility becomes smart through the exchange of data between vehicles, passengers and infrastructure. Our innovation enables smart mobility.

Connected and autonomous mobility – the smart move

Smart mobility is vital to successfully managing the continuously growing amount of private, public and commercial traffic. Mobility becomes smart through the combination of data collected by sensors and the exchange of this data between other vehicles and the infrastructure. Using sensor systems and ubiquitous connectivity built on semiconductors, smart mobility and ultimately autonomous vehicles become a key element of the mobility transformation.

Advancing smart mobility

Global population growth, urbanization and climate change are making us rethink mobility. Urban areas are confronted with rising road traffic levels, congestion and air pollution. Commuters lose time and money on jammed roads while city dwellers struggle with parking spaces and more traffic. That’s why smart solutions are in great demand. Smart mobility based on digitalization means the intelligent connection of all traffic systems to coordinate them optimally and combine all forms of transportation in a way that saves time and is energy-efficient – while increasing people’s comfort and convenience at the same time.

Personalization possibilities and the interconnectivity of devices enable new business models. Classical business models are increasingly fading out. Car manufacturers no longer sell cars – they sell mobility solutions with personalized services and features.

Ubiquitous connectivity and sensors are at the heart of smart mobility

Smart mobility depends heavily on pervasive connectivity and networks enabled by sensor systems. This way, vehicles will thus be in constant communication with each other in the future. They will exchange data with each other (V2V) with ultra-low latency and high reliability and will enable a multitude of real-time applications. They will communicate with the traffic infrastructure (V2X) and will always be connected with the passenger. Data collection by sensors will include the volume of traffic, a scan of the surroundings and geographic data for controlling and coordinating traffic, for example. Thanks to such permanent communication, the systems will be able to detect dangerous situations ahead much sooner. Smart algorithms will initiate immediate action to prevent collisions, making driving much safer.

Sensing the world fuels smart mobility

Fully autonomous vehicles seem to be far in the future, but thanks to innovation in the field of semiconductors, intelligent driver assistance systems are now becoming mainstream. These advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) make driving more convenient and, above all, safer. Microelectronics from Infineon enable vehicles of different types to sense their environment, make safety decisions and securely communicate with their passengers and the outside world – from other vehicles and pedestrians to the traffic infrastructure.

Smart mobility improving daily lives and enabling new business models

Smart mobility benefits entire cities. A smart city improves the daily lives of citizens with the intelligent and sustainable use of communication and information technology. They enable mobility services such as transport sharing systems (e.g. Mobility as a Service) which are already a part of our everyday lives.
