Battery Management ICs
Infineon current portfolio covers Battery Management Sensing ICs and Battery Management Transceiver ICs
Infineon’s new family of dedicated battery management ICs offers the perfect solution for a wide variety of application including Automotive (MHEV, HEV, PHEV and BEV), industrial (i.e. Energy Storage Systems) and consumer products (i.e. ebike BMS). Infineon integrated circuits and designs help you to layout your Battery Management System.
Infineon’s battery management ICs can be used in Safety relevant applications offering the perfect solution for Automotive. Further on these products are designed to work together with AURIX™ family of microcontrollers and functional safety capable PMIC providing a full solution for voltage and temperature sensing as well as balancing and communicating inside a variety of battery solutions.
Battery management system refers to the electronics that deliver information to the host system about status of the battery like state of charge and state of health information.
Certain battery cell chemistries may become unstable in case of over voltage, charging after under voltage or overcurrent. Therefore, the Battery Management System is there to ensure that the cells in the system are always operated inside the SOA of the given chemistry. Infineon products contribute by providing voltage of each cell and temperature measurement through external resistor (NTC) as well as communicating the results to the main microcontroller.
Infineon´s Battery Management System devices family is designed and engineered for systems that consists of 4 to 200 cells in series comprehending voltages between 12V and 800V. Infineon devices can be operated either directly from microcontroller by using UART or through iso UART interface by using the BMS transceiver IC, being capable to capacitive isolate the communication.
Yes, Infineon´s Battery Management System products have been designed fulfilling the highest quality standards and finally qualified according AEC Q100 qualification standard.
